Just completely stunning
Got this as a Christmas gift for my dad, this blade is stunning, neither of us have seen a knife with a blade in the shape that this is, which made it super unique and the damascus pattern is beautiful. bearing is high quality easy to open, stays in place and locks well. I love my knife but I have to say when I saw my dad open this, it made me want one as well. This is just such a beautiful piece of functional art. He loved it and I love it

Nice Quality, Dubious Provenance
I was not really sure what to think when I first received this Minnow Damascus Steel Folding Pocket Knife. One review in particular, a one-star review had me doubting the quality of what I would receive. However, upon receiving and opening the product I was pleasantly surprised. The knife arrives in a nice giftable box. Included is a nice looking leather sheath that appears to be made of top-grain leather, a gift bag, a cleaning cloth, an adjustment tool, and of course the knife itself. The overall, initial quality of this knife is very good in my opinion. Everything appears to be put together well. Fit and finish are excellent. The opening action is smooth, effortless and locks up tightly. The blade is razor sharp out of the box. Now, on to that one-star review and debunking some of the claims there. Firstly, the scales. The review I saw claimed that the scales are cast resin. I removed the scales from the knife and I can confirm without a doubt that they are not cast resin. They are in fact maple and resin composite as the description states. They have been likely finished with some type of poly and polished, but if you take them off you can see on the backside that the wood pieces are real wood. Secondly, the review stated that the “material is aluminum not stainless 316 or even 409.” I’m not real clear what this is referencing, as the description doesn’t state 316 or 409 as a material used in this knife, but I am assuming the reviewer is referring to the frame components. While I can’t say for sure what type of steel is used, I can tell you that it is certainly steel and NOT aluminum. I know this because it is magnetic, and aluminum is not magnetic. 440C Stainless steel, which is what the description says the components are, IS magnetic, so I am going to go ahead and believe that it is what the description says it is. Lastly, the blade. Now this is where I had the most doubts and almost agreed with that one-star review that sates that it is laser-etched and not real Damascus. I initially thought this because I could feel the pattern ridges with my nail. Typically, Damascus (pattern welded steel), is acid etched to bring out that distinctive pattern as one of the finishing steps. That pattern is visible, but typically cannot be felt. So when I felt the pattern with my nail, I thought it was perhaps laser etched. However, upon closer inspection of the blade, I found that the pattern continues even along the spine of the knife and matches the patters on the sides. It is not visible to the naked eye, but using a macro lens I was able to photograph it and included that photo in my review. This does not 100% validate that this is a “Damascus” blade, but I just can’t see someone taking the time to fake a pattern and include the spine with such detail. As for why I can feel the pattern on the blade, I have no idea. I am not an expert on the subject. Maybe the acid exacting was deeper than usual. I don’t know. I will leave up to you to decide for yourself, but I feel that the metal is legitimate pattern welded steel, what is referred to generally as Damascus. As for the provenance. The description states that this knife is handmade in Japan. I do have my doubts there. There are absolutely zero original markings on the knife or any of the packaging that states a country of origin or manufacture. I cannot find any other information on the company, Minnow. I can’t say for sure whether or not this knife is made in Japan, but I have my doubts.Regardless of where it is made, it is a nice knife. Maybe a little spendy given that the original cannot be verified. I also don’t like the fact that the blade material is not specifically called out. There is not one single material known as “Japanese Damascus.” Most knife makers will at least state the core material, “VG-10 Damascus” for example. With all that said, I think it is a solid knife and I am happy with it. I give it a solid 4-stars for the fact that the origin cannot be verified and the lack of details on exactly what type of steel is used in the blade.

Beautiful and well balanced blade.
Well design and constructed knife. The blade itself is beautifully marked and has a clean shape. A thumb catch allows a quick dispatch of the blade and it locks in the out position safely. To release the blade there is a push plate. The handle is beautifully fabricated as is the sheath. This is well balanced, strong blade with easy movement and beautiful design.

lazer etch not damascus
I bought this for my son's 16th birthday and at this price point, i'm disgusted with the lack of quality. The product description is completely false. This is not a handmade Damascus blade and the handle is epoxy resin cast not wood. The blade has an etched pattern and is a huge piece of junk. the material is aluminium not stainless 316 or even 409.
