A great watch that needs more love
The build quality and finish of this watch is fantastic. Yes, it’s a vintage sized piece, so it’s not in your face huge like a lot of modern dive watches (I’m looking at you Oris Aquis 43.5). But it actually wears larger on wrist because the bezel sits wider than the case. I compared one side by side with a black bay 58, and I ended up liking the sizing of this Rado more (which is why I own one and not a BB58). And yes, 19mm lug width means you have to scrawl the web a bit for the perfect 19mm strap if you don’t want to settle for an 18mm, but 18mm straps actually sit beautifully on the watch and are a good option. Lastly, yes, Rado is an “R” brand that isn’t Rolex, but the brand has its own lengthy (and horologically important) history, and the design of this watch is spot on. Compare it in a modern 42mm size to the new Breitling Heritage 57 and you’ll walk away convinced that Rado built a real winner, in both vintage and modern sizes. I really can’t say enough positive things about this watch since it exceeded all of my expectations, and pleasantly enough Rado made a 37mm piece with a silver dial and diamond indices, so I could get one for my wife to match. She loves hers almost as much as I love mine.
