Sounds like the adhesive has gone bad.I did not have the same problem

used this product tto pad my horseshoe stand and have never had a problem. works great.

Not much. It is pretty soft. It worked for my needs, but was much softer than I expected it to be. Sorry, I don't know the compression strenght

Q: Can they be used behind electrical cover plates with cutouts for plugs?

I would think they could as some kind of insulation...not for electrical insulation. I hope this helps you.
