The manufacturer (Reed Instruments) recommends that the meter be calibrated after any extended time without using it or if it is used in extreme conditions. It is recommended that you purchase the R8090 calibrator in addition to the sound level meter to perform the calibration. Even if you purchase the version that includes the calibration certificate you would still need to perform your own calibration regularly to achieve accurate results.
