Can Work Very Well ... some trial
Bought this to be able to have repeatable espresso extraction, found I was getting good, indifferent and poor results with a normal Tamper. Now once dialled in for new batch, different brand etc etc can repeatedly hit the sweet spot for near perfect coffee each time. Can also be used in conjunction with a tamper helps keep a level surface. Build, weight and ease of use all excellent, worth giving it a go!

Brilliant: compacts coffee beautifully
Does the job way better than expected: it renders my professional tamper for exclusive use with coffee that needs additional compaction. Was worried this was a little ill-fitting, but didn’t create any noticeable issues.I slightly settle the coffee before use, then spin clockwise until a smooth surface is achieved without friction from the coffee.Word of warning: as per another review, this is tightly screwed together on upon delivery. I cut my hand on the distributor portion trying to loosen the middle locknut. Eventually, I put some coins into the top grips bolt hole to create a gap between the top grip and the locknut, so I could twist the locknut away from the distributor portion. This technique can also be used to “fix” varying heights.

Gonna level with you
A beautifully made, weighty and wonderfully finished leveller. For the money I don’t see what there is not to like. With a VST basket and a bottomless PF it has improved consistency no end. In terms of bang for buck for coffee related accessories, it’s the best £16 I’ve spent. Don’t hesitate, just bloomin buy one!!

Useful tool
Very handy tool for coffee nerds who want to have consistently the perfect cup of espresso. Very easy to use and adjustable depending on the depth of the basket.

Unsuitable for use as combined leveller and tamp.
Unsuitable as a combined leveller and tamp. There aren't enough threads to go low enough to tamp it properly so it has to be followed up with a normal tamp.I have had it on its last thread and the Puck is still soft when I press on it. I have had to use 19g in a 14g basket (Gaggia new baby, Std 58mm) to get it close to compact enough but it then touches the top and leaves an imprint, which causes the water to flood through.So to make it work for me, I have it at a mid setting for 17g, I use this to even/level the mound, then I finish and polish with my tamp.I would've loved for this to work as a leveller and combined tamp, but sadly it falls a bit short. It's also shy of a mm or two in diameter as the grinds come up the sides a little.It is a heavy, sturdy piece and well made but just isn't quite there.
