Q: Is it good for punk rock (penny wise,misfits,nofx)?

Depends on the pick ups the guitar has . The 401 with the active pick ups 60 neck 80 bridge would not be optimal for punk with non active pick ups it would be more suited for punk

Q: does the back of the neck joint have the high fret access carve?

It does not butbyou can still acessbthe higher frets without a problem

Q: Is this the new 2017 ec401 with the black hardware and high access carve or the old ec401 with chrome hardware?

Mine came with chrome hardware it's a decent guitar for the money.

Q: What type of body wood

Refer to the esp website I think it's mahogany.
