Excellent COB Video Light
Excellent quality COB Video Light from SmallRig made from excellent materials.I have a few items from SmallRig and so far I have always been impressed with the quality and how good they work. I have been using this light for photography and videography for just over a month and I have had no issues, I also have the 60B which I like a lot. This is an excellent light and you won’t be disappointed if you get it, the light is not perfect and I will explain why, also I am not going to go through all the features of this I am sure there will be plenty of others that will do that so I will be talking about the differences between this and the 60B.The first difference is the size this is bigger than the 60B and that is not surprising as this is more powerful at 100W compared to 60W which is perfect for my needs, it is not a huge difference in the size but you will definitely notice it if you have used the 60B. It has a bigger fan on the top to help vent/cool the light down now, the fan is not silent BUT saying that I am impressed with just how low the sound is I am no sound expert BUT for the videos I have used it on I have not noticed/heard the fan in the videos which is always important.I have a few grumbles about the light the first is there is no inbuilt battery like the previous model which is a shame I can see why this was done as this would probably have increased the overall size of the light and also would have increased the price. I accept I might be being picky with this BUT there are times when I am going out with the light and I know I will only need the light for a short amount of time and it is just a pain to have to take a V mount battery or NP-F batteries with me as well, the inbuilt battery would have cut down on what I need to take with me.I love that the V mount holder/slot is built into the light so no adaptor is needed like the 60B BUT if you plan to use NP-F batteries you will need an adapter which is supplied with the light which is a very nice touch. If you will be using NP-F batteries you will need to use two batteries I have been using NP-F970 and they work BUT this leads onto my second grumble when using NP-F batteries when adjusting the power you can only go up to a maximum of 60% which is disappointing this is not a problem when using V mount batteries you can go up to 100%. I have a number of different NP-F970 batteries and it is the same with all of them so I am not sure if this is with all NP-F batteries or just NP-F970 ones so this is something to bear in mind.Another grumble is the bowens mount this is not the usual size so out of the box any bowens mount accessories you have won’t work on this just the same as the 60B, this uses a mini bowens mount I will call it, you can buy a small parabolic softbox which costs £39.90p and this works very well I have one, and the good thing is it works on both models of light. BUT even better SmallRig has a bowens mount ring adaptor that costs £21.90p this also works on both models which I have and I use a lot so you can now use your bowens mount accessories BUT I will say you will have to be realistic with the size/weight of the softbox you plan to connect to it the maximum load of the adaptor is 1.5kg.The 100B can be controlled wireless using the SmallRig app which is a huge bonus for me no more standing on something or lowering the light stand if I have it up high to adjust the settings which you have to do the 60B. The app is very easy to use and is responsive this is one of the new features I love the most.Another new feature is the light has a DC IN 12V port I have not needed to use this so far and I do not have a cable that could work in it BUT it is nice to know it is there if I ever need to.Overall I am happy with the SmallRig RC 100B and even with my grumbles I would still recommend it.
