This unit doesn't take filters. But to replace the beeds/stones are orderable on Amazon but they take some time to where out.and to add or change all u do is unscrew the head and fill then u are good to go

How does this shower water filter actually feel in use？

It is very convenient. It took me very little time to install. I love trying all 6 shower modes in the shower, it's so much fun. Hahahahaha
