I swear I was telling anyone who would listen about it. The world building…??Absolute perfection. This book is everything a romantasy should be fast paced, true enemies to lovers, with just the right amount of magic, tension, and angst. Kudos to Briar Boleyn for giving us Blake and Medra, because whew… that ritual scene??!!! Had a girl squirming. Like, girl this could’ve been spicier , and I still would’ve been fanning myself. The slow burn was so sooooo worth it. It gave me a tiny bit of Harry Potter vibes, but mostly it reminded me of Twilight, One Dark Window, and maybe a little Fourth Wing. I loved Medra’s personality. Honestly, all the characters Florence, Naveen, even Kage were written so well. The love in this book was beautiful & relatable . The history & Lore Chef’s kiss. I loved how the author took the time to build the world and its past it gave wonderful imagery.Now Blake… I didn’t care for him at first, but once that possessive, protective side kicked in? Yeah, I was hooked. The way he was with Medra?? He totally fell first, and watching him unravel while still being a bit of a bully? So fun to read. I didn’t realize there’s another series that gives more background and sets up the story!! I’ll definitely be diving into that as soon as I finish this one. And I have to say, one of the parts I appreciated most was Medra’s complicated relationship with her mother. The healing and reconnection in this book. Subtle but powerful. No spoilers, but I’m OBSESSED and can’t wait to see what happens next. This book is intoxicating.

Ok ok so hear me out… was the book yes it was really good. But not how it’s getting all the hype everywhere for it. But again it is good. Blake my guy you are something like really something all of this could’ve been prevented if you were just true to your own feeling towards medra. Maybe yall could’ve been in a better place throughout the book instead you wanted to be an ass, and rude and everything else. As for Medra I feel like you could’ve just been just a tad nicer to everyone instead of stooping to their level and I’m not talking about kissing the high bloods butt but you even gave off you thought you were better than them because of your blood and you didn’t know you had it till they told you. Lastly I’m happy Regan you got expelled, I’m sad you wasn’t executed but I guess we all can get what we want. Because you were a real B and you irked my soul. There was absolutely no need to be the way you were and treat the blightborn horribly just because they weren’t vampire. And one more thing I was upset that the dragons didn’t make an appearance till literally the very end and I know there a second book but I would’ve like to have seen them a little earlier instead of the last pages like come one. Ok Ok I won’t keep going on but like I said the book was a good read I did think it was interesting but it didn’t give like all the hype made it to be. Again it was definitely good but it was over over hyped.

That was a lot. I know the first book in a fantasy series has a ton of information. I ended up needing to listen to this one on Audible because the information overload was immense and it was hard to connect with the story just reading it on the page. Audible definitely helped a lot!I honestly feel like I still don't understand everything. The story definitely got better as it went on. I felt like we got dropped into the middle of the story in the beginning because so much just happened so quickly. It's still a tad weird for me but I think I'll give book 2 a chance. Not a horrible story all in all, just a tad hard to follow.It wasn't nearly as gory as I expected being that it's a vampire story. I liked the consort competition. I didn't like the MMC.He was honestly a bit of a prick. I think he might grow on me but he went from zero to obsessed rather quickly and it was weird. I felt like I got whiplash. I'll keep reading the series....maybe.
