Q: Is this variable speed?

it varies from 0 to 6800rpm in less than a second. ;Dvariable speed would have been a feature i would appreciated a lot and would have made this tool even more useful. but still i'm using it a lot.

Q: Although the product description says it's ideal for electricians, do you think I could cut concrete if I were to use a 4 1/2 in diamond blade?

I've used this grinder to cut 1/2 in Hardiebacker when doing bathroom remodels. I use a cutoff/wafer wheel which isn't ideal for this use but it works. In my opinion it had adequate power but the fully charged battery lasted roughly 20 mins of almost continuous use (I cut about 4 sheets for a tub surround). So, to answer your question, I know it will cut concrete with a diamond wheel, but if I needed to use it continuously for an extended period of time I'd go with something corded which is the case with most battery powered saws/grinders. I hope this helps.

Q: How is the paddle switch on this compared to the trigger switch like all the other cordless grinders?

I find it to be far more ergonomic. Very smooth and responsive. You’ll love this grinder! Just be sure to get at least a 5ah battery or more for. 2ah only last like 10 min of continued use.
