This adds umami just like msg but no msg?

It's basically identical to MSG, just technically not MSG from a chemistry standpoint. Mushrooms are high in glutamate. So you're getting glutamate + salt. MSG is glutamate + sodium. Whether you use this or pure MSG, you're still getting the glutamate. Just that MSG has sodium combined with glutamate, and this tin has glutamate and salt separately. The word "umami" was invented by the scientist who discovered MSG. In any case, MSG isn't harmful, so there's no reason to not try this.

It doesn't mention any additives in the ingredients. Ingredients: Sea Salt, Dehydrated Porcini Mushrooms, Spices (black pepper, red pepper flakes, thyme,) Olive oil. That's it.
