***WARNING DIY-ERS*****
As someone who does woodworking for a living, I can see how most diy-ers would find the process of installing these brackets and mounting the shelves nearly impossible. First of all, just make the rods slightly less than 1/2 so no one has to order a 33/64" bit. The rods are wayyyy too tight to be able to install into the shelf, (let alone mounting the shelf onto the wall, which most of us carpenters know are never flat)especially with the extra thickness on the powder coating. Second thing is that there are no counter-sinks on the bracket for the screw holes and you supply drywall screws that have a tapered head, so now unless the pocket they've made for the bracket is 3/16 plus an 1/8 in for the protruding screw head, they have to go out and buy a countersinking bit. Otherwise the brackets are fine, just poor thought into how most people would fair with this project. Hope you are able to make some improvements.

Steer Clear
These things suck. The manufacturer doesn't tell you that the powder coating adds to the half inch diameter of the rods. So you have to get a 17/32 drill bit. Oh and make sure you buy a drill with a large chuck that can hold it. Oh and the brackets themselves aren't straight on any axis (see photo). Because of all of this I had to take the brackets off the wall, straighten them the best i could, remount and drill more holes (holes didn't line up with original ones I drilled), ream out the holes in the back of the shelves because the rods don't all sit perfectly even (or at the same angles), and even after all of that, the shelves still don't sit flush to the wall (about a fingers distance from the wall on one side). Yes my walls are flat, I meticulously plastered and leveled them during my renovation. Now I've got ugly gaps behind my shelves. The manufacturer should give out drywall plaster and repair kits with these things so you don't have to buy them after you realize the brackets won't work and you screw up your wall.In addition, the brackets do not appear to support the manufacturer's claim of 100lbs per rod. Mine flex and creak against the drywall (which I'm assuming has softened due to me hammering and wiggling the shelf board back and forth to try and get it to sit flush).

Rod doesnt fit in 1/2" hole unless you force it. Would never allow you to remove from the wall...
The description needs to be updated. These brackets have caused me significant frustration because the supposed 1/2" rod doesnt fit in a 1/2" hole. Why wouldnt you include information for the buyer to tell them both the distance the rods are apart (exactly), as well as the size hole YOU NEED TO DRILL??? Seems like the most basic info. After ruining the first two pieces of wood I sized for the shelves I started drilling trial holes in a piece of scrap wood. I used several different kinds of 1/2" bits, including a brad bit, and the bracket didnt fit in ANY OF THEM. If you force it in, it might go, but then you would never be able to take it off the wall without ripping the wall out. EIther update the description, include the details in the package, or send me a new bracket that actually fits in 1/2" holes. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Beautifully made. They serve our purpose perfectly.
Luckily for me these brackets are sold as a pair because I wanted my shelf to span 10 feet and not show any hardware. Their largest bracket set works perfectly for me. The brackets can handle a shelf 12 inches deep and that was my plan. The brackets are carefully designed and beautifully made by hand and powder coated in black even though they are not meant to show. All the mounting hardware is included. They also plant a tree for each one sold. You can't beat that! To give you an idea of how carefully engineered they are, each rod has an up tilt of 1 degree to counter balance the downward stress of the weight put on them. I highly recommend this bracket and the US company that makes them in Michigan.

Good Quality, difficult to install for some applicataions
First of all, my review may not be related to all potential applications of this product. I built a floating entertainment center that required two of these brackets to be attached to the top and bottom of the shelf. Needless to say precision was a must as you need to mount the brackets to the walls first, and then attachment your shelves. What made this more challenging is that the rods were not evenly centered along the entire rod. The two end rods were somewhat centered but the middle rod was off-center creating a type of arch in the hole placement that I needed to make on the entertainment center. This was a tremendously difficult exercise and could have been made easier if all of the rods were perfectly centered. In addition, the rods were not true 5/8", they were probably more like 11/16" which I found out after the fact when I tried to insert the rods into the drilled holes. I realize you want a tight fit, but i needed to go through and redrill all of my holes in order to make it work. I suppose if you were doing a single shelf it may be a little easier, but for my application I wish I had gone a different route.

Very well made product
I wanted these to support the shelves in a bookcase. I was able to install these from the rear and then slide the shelves on. On the side shelf I recessed a groove to fit the bracket as that will sit against the wall. I found that making a template for the hole spacing was a great help. I recommended that to the manufacturer so that they might offer one as an option. In this situation I was also able to run 3" screws through a few of the holes to draw the shelves in tight. That probably would not be an option for surface mount brackets.I am planning to use one of the brackets I ordered for a live edge fireplace mantel i'm working on.Overall, I found that these were as advertised to be strong and well made.

blind brackets
I used these for countertop sub top anchors. The brackets are good for attachment a shelf to a wall, like a sub top for a countertop. Drilling long straight holes into plywood is difficult without a jig/drill press. In lieu, we routed grooves into the plywood and then added trim to cover up the stem. Nice option for shelf/sub top anchors versus corbels when corbels are not practical.

Perfect size for my application
Holds two heavy shelves. i like the way the rods are canted up some to compensate for shelf weight. Be sure to install as instructed to take advantage of the weigh.
