It's Possible That That E String Is Hitting The Fret When Played, This Usually Happens When: 1. The Neck Is Bowed. 2. String Action Too Low. These are made in China and are passive. The MJ series rhoads (made in Japan) is $2799. These are excellent guitars and make really good platforms for upgrades. These guitars are perfectly fine as is and most people are happy with them for years completely stock. That being said, upgrading the pickups and adding a tusq nut brings this guitar to a whole nother level comparable with guitars triple the price
