I'm a new dog owner and want to do it right! I bought this after finding out about raw feeding from the trainer that came to our house to work on a few training issues for my new little Slum-dog: a Craig's List pup my son was not able to keep. I was supposed to keep him for a few days while he looked for a home for him. My husband and I are now raising our first dog! I started with this book, and on YouTube. Mercola Healthy Pets on YouTube with Dr Karen Becker uses the same information as Steve Brown. It makes perfect sense! I'm gradually switching him over to raw and he loves it! Thats the way dogs have eaten from the beginning of time. My first order of raw food will be arriving from Hare-today.com. Why would I make him eat all the overly-processed junk that is in the dry food? All of the nutrients are cooked out, then they spray it with vitamins and flavoring so the dog will eat it. Not my dog!

I have been feeding my dog an all raw meat diet for many years. I included several supplement and oils.With this book and Steve's other book on the dogs ancestral diet, I now feel that I am feeding her the correct amounts and variety. It is more expensive, but I avoid many trips to the vet, so it is actually less expensive and my friend is much happier and healthy.I will never feed my pets any commercial food. It is truly junk. Grain free or not it is all not even close to what a dog or a cat needs to be healthy and live a long disease free life.

A very nicely written book that goes into some detail, but not too much. A lot of what he does is compairing how we eat and feed our children to how we feed our dogs. It really makes you think, and it gives you ideas as to how to improve the diet of your dog and why you need to do so. Some of his ideas can easily transfer as to how we can live longer ourselves. Would definitely recommend anyone who is thinking about improving their dogs nutrition to read it!

Excellent book on feeding dogs a healthy diet. I am following many of the author's suggestions with good results. I would recommend it to anyone who understands that our dogs "are what they eat," just like us!

This book is full of woo. For instance, the book starts with a bunch of case studies of dogs who have purportedly benefited from a raw diet. These raw diets were implemented...wait for it...AT THE SAME TIME MEDICATIONS WERE BEING ADMINISTERED. Was it the raw diet or the pharmaceuticals that cleared up these conditions?I guess we will never know.

This is a great book.. totally enjoyed it..
