Shopping for a dead bolt or swing latch type of lock to add security to a couple exterior doors, these came up as an option.What I love about them is their simplicity. What is impressive about them is their heft.The fact that they are only screwed into the door jamb is a bonus, as one of our doors is a hollow core. Most latches/locks come is two parts with one part attached to the door frame and the other part screwed into the door itself. If the door is a hollow core door, that makes it a very vulnerable weak point.This screws into the solid wood door frame. The latch screws into the door jamb, meaning the door closes over the screws just like the hinges do on the other side of the door. What this means is that it would be nearly impossible to kick the door in and dislodge the screws.The lock itself, flips over to secure the door closed. It's spring loaded, so it takes a little effort to tug-and-flip it open/closed. It's not difficult, and this deters little ones from accidently flipping the latch closed if it's in their reach. One thing to take note of though, is that the spring is tight and it does take a bit of a tug to dislodge before flipping it open/closed, so it may be difficult for anyone with arthritis or weakness in their hands/fingers.Another thing to take note of is that if your doors have very little clearance, you will need to chisel and recess the plate into the door jamb. One of my doors had clearance that varied along the height of the door, so I had to slide the latch up and down until I found the widest clearance.Another thing to keep in mind, is that unlike a deadbolt, there is no keyed ability to unlock this. Once it's flipped closed, you cannot open that door from the outside . . . something to remember if that door is ever used as a secondary entrance.* * Personal true scenario : Latch was flip-locked on front door. Husband & I left thru another door that leads to the garage and drove away to my sister's house. Husband went straight to gym from there and my sister brought me home. I couldn't get into the house bc the latch was locked on the front door and I didn't have a garage remote. Just went back to sister's house to wait for husband, but good lesson learned.Very impressive and very happy with these.

I have purchased several of these for my parents home due to my father‘s Alzheimer’s. These locks were a lifesaver for my parents, as my dad is obsessed with trying to get outside constantly. This would be extremely dangerous in his current state. He can’t figure out how to use these and doesn’t even notice them as they are attached to the upper part of the door. Easy to install, my mom did it herself! Would be nice security for any home for any purpose.
