excellent Adapter
When I bought this I never figured I would use it again. I figured it was only a one shot deal. This is a very handy tool for a tech guy to have. I recommend that anyone that has to troubleshoot friends computers or if you just need to migrate your hard drive, buy this unit. It works great (I have had it over a year and am still amazed at how much I use this tool. Very durable and the very much worth the money.

Works for my needs.
I bought this because I took my *old* SSD out of my computer and upgraded in size for it and i had just an SSD on hand. When i got this adapter I put in my SSD in and just worked. With USB 3.0 it is very fast but it will not be the same speed as my SSD because of the limit of the speed on USB 3.0 but that can't be helped. The adapter pulls power off of the USB port so you do not need to plug in the power plug for a SSD. If you have a HDD then you will NEED to plug in the included power adapter in the back on the device for it to work and that will power the hard drive and works as you would have it in your computer just as a USB drive on your computer.

Purchase at your own risk.
Well the concept is great, I purchased this originally to bypass that garbage thing they call a hard drive installed in my Xbox one. Which when it works, it does work great. Unfortunately, this thing drops off of my Xbox One about every 3 - 5 minutes even with the additional power plugged in, thus rendering this device useless. Attempted to plug it into my computer, wow what a joke. The device, even with the additional power cable plugged in will draw too much power from the Serial Bus thus disabling all other devices on the same lane. So plugging it into my computer left my mouse, camera, and keyboard disabled. Fail...Would you recommend this to anyone? No. Look elsewear and spend a little extra on a brand that is well known. Larger brands will have better quality control.Don't get me wrong, anyone. I really wanted this product to be great, I tried looking past the issue with the Serial bus and trying to find any workaround possible. Unfortunately, if its still drawing too much power even with the AC adapter connected, theres nothing you can do. The device is not going to work. Two stars and I will be returning the device.

Great Product! Works Perfectly with Xbox One
I am writing this review since I didn't really see anything before this about use with Xbox One (if there is, apologies for redundancy)I am using a 2TB Seagate Internal Hard Drive and have zero complaints about the performance of this product for my use with Xbox One. Since the One needs a USB 3.0, I couldn't use my current dock and purchased this one on the hopes it would work and it completely does! The system immediately recognized the device and prompted me for setup. If you are like me and looking for a device to allow external storage on the Xbox One by using an internal hard drive, this product is a fantastic choice.I hope this helps those with doubts!

Did the job, but short cable
This device did exactly what I purchased it for, which was to allow me to access an internal blu-ray device with a USB connection. I was subsequently able to burn a 50G DL blu-ray disk without any problems.I had it connected to a USB 2.0 port, so I can't make any statements about the speed of the device when connected via the proper USB 3.0 connection that it is capable of. However, as expected, data speeds at USB 2.0 seemed a little slow. When connecting to an optical drive like a blu-ray device, you need to use the included power supply, which worked fine for me. However, when connecting to lower power devices such as a laptop hard drive, this device is able to draw power from the USB port and functions perfectly well without the power adapter. The form factor was good and easy to work with, even allowing me to connect it to a drive that was in another computer's case. The only problem was the very short cable. You won't have much in the way of reach from your computer's USB port, but it may be worth sacrificing some cable length for the increased portability of this device. I do think that I would rather have at least a two-foot cable rather than the one foot cable that is part of the device.

One shot wonder .......
So I have a 1TB Samsung 840 Evo and a ASUS G750J running Win 8.1. Everything worked fine through the installation and I began the data migration process. Within about five minutes it began to erratically disconnect and connect. Needless to say the migration process failed out. I restarted my PC and tried again. This time the device isn't recognized and the Samsung software cannot find the drive. Also the green indicator light isn't on/blinking. I tried connecting the power to the adapter with the same results. Any hits?

Simple, works on Linux, no hard drive holder
I bought this because the 3.5" hard drive I wanted to use it with was unfortunately irretrievably stuck inside a plastic caddy, making it wider than just a bare 3.5" hard drive. All other USB to SATA adaptor devices I found had some sort of appropriately sized indentation or slot or something where the hard drive was supposed to fit, but this one just plugs into the business end of the hard drive without caring about the size or shape of the rest of the drive. Great!I only tried the device out on Linux, where it worked beautifully without the need to install anything whatsoever (and I have a rather minimal system and kernel, too).As others have mentioned, the cable is rather short. It was actually shorter than my 12.5" laptop is wide, which was a little awkward. But in the end it doesn't really matter, I guess. All in all, highly recommended.
