NOT dishwasher safe
I have had my Kitchenaid since 1990, and the splash shield was used hundreds of times before it broke. I used this one ONCE and it melted it in dishwasher. I didn't see any warning, and I had the original in the dishwasher, top shelf, more times than I can count. The plastic is thin, but I assumed the quality of plastic had improved over the years. I do NOT recommend this item. Even if you hand wash it, I suspect the thin plastic will fail.

More work than help.
I got a new Kitchenaid stand mixer, with a 4.5 qt. bowl. I bought this shield hoping that it would save some mess when I first start the mixer. Like the flour or powder sugar cloud that blows out on start up, or the the batter that erupts when mixing is first started. It is pretty much useless. First, it does not fit well on the bowl. Have to work to get it seated. Second, it does nothing to stop the batter eruption. I put it on, got it seated, turned mixer on lowest setting, kind of pulsing to get it mixed well at first. Then, turned it on, on lowest setting, to start mixing and the chocolate batter went every where. It shot out the top opening, the spout and the space left open to insert the shield. I turned it off, cleaned it all up, seated the shield again, because it had come off. The second time I turned it on, it not only came out the top but oozed out the bowl edges between the bowl and the shield. I will go back to using a spatula to mix up the ingredients a bit and then just run the mixer to blend it better. I am getting a 5 qt. bowl for the mixer, hoping maybe the extra room will help cut down the mess.

It does the job
While it fits over the mixing bowl, it doesn't secure onto it. there are three small protrusions that hold the guard in place but it'll move off the bowl if you bump it with your hand or cup as you add the ingredients. It does work, and it does stop flour, etc from flying out of the bowl, but it would have been better if it had a better grip on the rim of the bowl.

Not Especially Effective
This is a poor design. There are gaps in the rim and the mixer shows contents out through the gaps. I bought it to prevent having my mixer throw flour all over the counter. It doesn't completely stop that. A simple remedy would be to close those gaps. Also the flanges that hold the contraption onto the mixer bowl are ineffective it routinely pops off the bowl. I certainly would not buy again.

Genuine KitchenAid Part
Don't hesitate to order this item. It's a real KitchenAid part (seller is an appliance parts dealer), and fits on my 5-quart Artisan mixer as intended. It's not the greatest design ever (KitchenAid's responsibility) but it performs well enough. Item arrived the day after I ordered it.

Not as effective as thought
This item isn't as effective in stopping splatter. I still have to cover mixer with towel when using for thin liquids.

Not worth it.
We used this once. It fit great, but the gap at the back was very large so still things come out of the bowl. The other issue is that it does not say anywhere that it is not dishwasher safe. We put it in the dishwasher and it warped so bad that it is not longer usable.

Hard to keep attached
I wanted to act as a proofing lid, it does not and it is quite difficult to keep attached while loading in ingredients for bread making. It will work well for liquids thought and if I hold it in place it works fine

Does not stay securely attached to OEM Kitchenaid stainless steel bowl
looked ok out of the box although it was poorly packaged to prevent shipping damage. At first it seemed to fit the bowl fine, however if you are mixing anything dense such as cookie dough, the three little tabs that clip around the bowl edge will not securely hold the cover in place. With minor vibrations the cover becomes loose and risks falling into the mixing bowl and being damaged by the mixer if not held in place. Will be returning and going with a better quality unit, most likely OEM.

Somewhat disappointing.
Its ok, but flour still comes out of bowl when mixing bread, probably ok to use when adding the flour or other ingredients to the bowl

Loose fit. Not a tight fit. I thought the plastic would be thicker.
Fir the money, I guess not bad.

It works as it should.

How to use
Is difficult to keep in place while using. Needs better clips on the edges
