What size for a 48 chest?

Not sure on your size but I'm a 40ins chest and large is perfect for me

Was is the best size to buy for an average size 15 year old, no size guide showing.

I would choose L, it will last longer. But it’s a fine piece of clothing.

What chest size is XXL?

Bought mine for someone who normally wears 3xl but a bit neat, would go a size larger
