Civil Service Exam Study Guide 2019 & 2020: Civil Service Exam Book and Practice Test Questions for the Civil Service Exams (Police Officer, Clerical, Firefighter, etc.)

This book feels like a sloppy and incomplete product.First, while the answer explanations were helpful, there were not enough practice questions. I would have liked a few diagnostic tests that mix the different topics together and let you test what you've learned overall. I also noticed that while the grammar section gives useful tips on things like parts of speech, the practice test completely ignores them and instead just gives a synonym test. This is a huge oversight.The book's formatting is bland and error-ridden, as if quickly typed out and slapped together. The math diagrams look stretched and fuzzy. There is a spelling error on page 11, ironically in the spelling section, and as another reviewer pointed out, question 23 in the spelling section has no correct answer. I'm sure there are more errors if one takes the time to look.This book does have a solid math section if topics like algebra and geometry are relevant for the exam you're taking. The other sections are fine, but don't expect anything special. It may help improve your score if this is your first studying resource, but I recommend searching online for guides and practice tests instead, where I have found better resources for free.

Already found an error, so this book doesn't seem promising. The word they claim is wrong is c. management. On the answer key it says they spelled it managment, but they did not.

I bought this study guide for my son, who is hoping to get into the police academy, but it was totally useless. He went through the entire book, studying all the sections, and feeling pretty confident about the exam. Yesterday was exam day, and it covered nothing from the book. There was no spelling, no math... Even though this book is advertised as a study guide for those taking the civil service exam for police officers, it is definitely not. It is probably a good guide for those taking a general exam, perhaps for a clerical or postal position, but if you are taking the test to become a police officer, don't bother with this study guide.

I am applying for a job at the City and I am scheduled to take their civil service test soon. I bought the book because I failed a civil service test twice before. This book has the same format of questions so I’m looking forward to seeing how it helps me. So far, it has proven to be extremely helpful and I am confident with more practice tests

I wouldn’t call it a study guide. It’s more of a how to take a multiple choice test guide. And it has absolutely nothing to do with civil service. I want my money back!

Just got though the into so far it's good. Can't wait to get to the practice tests. Okay, so the book over all is good. I feel like the Math portion needs little more work. I guess I would like more practice questions. It's a good start for a review.A week later, I decided that I needed more practice so I decided to buy an additional book. I bought one by Peterson's and it's way better. Its explains thoroughly & gives much more practice questions. I feel much more prepared for a civil exam. Spend a little more money & buy Peterson's book.

Nowhere in the description does it state that this book is for the US civil service. I bought this book to prepare for the UK civil service tests so it was a waste of money.
