BUY THIS LOCK / Quality, Durability & Value
BUY THIS LOCK / Quality, Durablility & Value- Back in Jan 2020 I wrote a negative short Review about a faulty padlock I had bought & returned. I was frustrated after I had tried other brands that didn't perform as advertised.- Subsequently, after been duly refunded, IGLOOHOME reached out to me through one of their partners in Bklyn (NY), offering me a free padlock, in lieu of my business security issues which this lock had added to. Naturally I accepted it, while agreeing to report this 'trial' lock progress to them.- This new lock depleted two batteries in 3wks. The first one I replaced easily because the lock was stuck on the Open position.- Two weeks later the new battery also went dead. But this time it was left on the Locked position, so I couldn't change its battery, being that its back-up 9v battery feature did'nt wake it up either. I also tried unsuccessfully to use a Bolt Cutter, but its super tough shackle wouldn't break off. So I had to remove the Gate latch assembly in order to return the padlock. But I didn't give up!- After given approval, I opted to take it personally to their Igloohome place. Fortunately, I also live in NYC, so I got to meet the nicest bunch of guys imaginable, namely Anthony. As it turned out, it was just a bad seal closure on the back plate that had allowed water to sip in.- They gave me a New Replacement padlock anyway, and returned my Latch intact.- I also have another Igloohome smart padlock on my office door for about 6 months and in NYC weather with NO issues or complaints, so my confidence is back. These padlock's features are very intelligently designed, and its practicality has been very well thought off.IGLOOHOME Technology, Durability & Functionality are unmatched...That I've learned first hand!- Now I strongly recommend this product for any security application; backed by a prompt, courteous & efficient Customer Service. So if you're looking for Toughness, Reliability & Full Control in security...Look No Further!3 IMPORTANT TIPS:- GET the Silicone Cover!*- APPLY Vaseline or thick Grease around the backplate groove (battery cover) while closed!- KEEP Lock Closed while outdoors!ALL TO ENSURE WATER PROTECTION!!

Dead lock, terrible customer service, need a sawzall to cut it off
Update April 14, 2023After my last review, the lock inexplicably responded to the seemingly millionth try with the 9 volt battery and we were able to unlock the padlock, open the back with the torx tool, and replace the battery. We managed to live to see another day replacing the battery once a month until today. This morning, despite having reflected a battery percentage of 80%, the padlock refused to respond to a code. We were locked in. Multiple 9 volt battery attempts were unsuccessful. To the padlock's credit, using a bolt cutter was not successful because of the hardened metal. Ditto using a jigsaw with a metal blade although that one seemed to make more of an impact. A family member who is an electrician also tried following the simple "jumpstart" instructions on the igloo home video but they were not able to get the lock to respond either and opined that it was probably defective. The only way out was using a reciprocating saw with a diamond blade to cut through the lock. It's officially dead. This lock was really great when it worked. It looks like the newer version - Padlock2 - uses USBC with a rechargeable battery so if you want spin the wheel of chance and spend money on igloo products, AVOID the padlock that requires the 9 volt battery to jumpstart. Igloo is of no help when it fails. And it will fail at the most inopportune time.--------------This lock lasted 14 months and then failed. Customer service was no help and said "regrettably" the warranty period had expired. While I liked this lock a lot when I first got it, Nov 2022, I would advise everyone to stay away from iglooHome products because 14 months is unacceptable. We used this lock on a driveway gate and added the silicone cover. The ability to have it detect your arrival (bluetooth location) and unlock was great. Access through the app worked fine. As we approached the year mark, the battery died without warning. The app kept saying 100% battery but clearly that was not the case because the lock went from working to completely dead. This occurred at the worst time because we could not open the gate to get out. After multiple efforts and two people, we were able to use the 9 volt battery to get it to allow us to unlock in order to change the battery. iglooHome makes it seem like jump starting the lock is a simple process but the contacts at the bottom of the lock to not make a good connection to the 9 volt battery so this process is actually quite the ordeal. Once we got it open and changed the battery, all seemed fine except a mere 3 months later the lock is completely dead and will not respond to the 9 volt lock. Chat with customer service was a complete fail with the rep saying that regrettably the lock is outside of any warranty.STAY AWAY from iglooHome products.

It's not for the outdoors
I am reading many of the reviews. Do not purchase if you plan to use outside. Great for everything else. I have six of these locks for various reasons. I used one for my shed and gate to backyard. Once it rained and the temperature dropped it drained the battery and it was never the same. Do not purchase if you plan to use this lock outside. In time, it will fail.

Battery died in 2months with only one unlock per week
Update: The manufacturer replaced my lock under warranty and said the behavior was not as expected. I now live in a cooler climate, and have the lock indoors, but am happy to say that the battery is still pretty full 8months later with several uses 5 days a week.Updating review and rating to reflect the new lock and customer service.Original review:I want to love this lock, but the battery died in just two months with only one unlock per week! The first one I received, the silicone cover ripped instantly so the manufacturer sent me a replacement at no charge. However when you put the silicone cover on it is impossible to see the buttons unless you are in a dark environment. This cause chaos with our lawn service company trying to unlock the lock. Eventually, I had to take the silicone cover off then to find that the batteries died so I had to use the 9V recovery power to get it unlocked. This is unacceptable for an outdoor lock. Had our lawn service came out and the battery been dead, I would have had to pay the service charge even though they werenβt able to access my lawn.Maybe this lock would do well in an indoor environment such as a storage facility, but I cannot trust it as an outdoor lock.
