Should I plant canna bulbs in the spring? Can I plant them in a huge pot and then just roll them into the garage for storage in the winter?

Since I ordered my late, as soon as I received them I planted then in small pots to make sure they a chance to start. They begin to grow, I knew they needed to be in larger pots. That's where they are today, because of the heat I water every day.If your garage is comfortable in the winter I wouldn't be afraid to just keep them inside. As always it would be better to plant them in the spring in the ground, but you need to dig them up, I would store them in some peat moss I hope this helps

You have to dig them out in the fall and replant in the spring. Just dig them out, cut off the foliage & stalk once it has dried, store in a cool place inside (I use a cardboard box and just lay them in a single layer so they don’t mold) and plant again.

can you break/cut the cannas bulbs/tubes apart to have more plants??

I plant my bulbs immediately where I want them to stay. We’re in the low 80’s in the afternoon (4/21) 60’s at night. A nursery owner told me not to move plants during the beginning of growing season. Maybe different for your climate.
