very good dried mushrooms
I was kind of undecided if should rate 4 or 5 stars, but for what they are they are very good. If you are expecting re-hydrated mushrooms to be the same as fresh mushrooms you will be disappointed. For best results you'll need to pour hot water over them and once water has cooled place them in the refrigerator for several days, this will make them as close to fresh texture as you'll get... but they'll still have a slight rubbery texture. Best use even after rehydrating is to use in stews or soups where you can simmer them in broth for a long time before adding other ingredients, also add the liquid used for rehydrating into the pot. Then the mushrooms and the liquid will add mushroom flavor to the broth. Since I've been doing more "home" cooking I've been making my own broth by using the bones from what I'll be cooking (usually chicken or turkey) and making broth from them, and add the rehydrated mushrooms during this time. After the broth is made I'll strain out the bones and save the mushrooms for later. This is where you then decide to leave them in or remove them from the broth before adding other stuff to the pot. My wife doesn't like the texture so I remove them and save for later to add to my bowl. The mushrooms does add a depth of flavor to a pot of stew.My favorite is chicken stew with dumplings. In the pot of broth I simmer chicken meat (or what ever meat you like), some spices (like pepper, garlic and such... even add Worchester sauce or soy sauce, whatever you like) a mix of veggies, potatoes, chunks of winter squash, celery, onions... really just anything you like and then when almost tender add dumplings to the top (I just use a box of dried mix (bisquick or similar) that has a recipe on it for making dumplings and follow the instructions for that).Truth be told I really don't like to spend a lot of time grocery shopping or cooking every day so anything I can buy in bulk and that stores well and can be used in a huge pot of whatever and that taste very good too and can make enough for a week... I'll make it and reheat a bowl of it in the microwave. So yes these dried mushrooms fit right in with this, so 5 stars for being what they are. Would I buy them again... yes.

Great buy, great taste !!
THE GREATEST buy on Amazon ! I’m following the advise on handling such a HUGE amount ...I froze about 1/2 the bag and refrigerated about 1/2...I had NO idea how huge a bag of dried Portobellos mushrooms would be getting,AND ITS A LOT ! Be prepared to have two large plastic canisters ( 2 Gallon size, so they won’t be smashed down too much) to store your bag in, and you’ll still have a small (1qt. Size canister) to fill with the remainder ! I immediately soaked the small left over amount, in warm water, as recommended on the bag, they MORE THAN DOUBLED IN SIZE !! Filling the plastic storage container, and the following night I made a fabulous portobello/ leek/tomato sauce, over Angel Hair Pasta..it was great. I used some of the “soaking liquid” as recommended, to add to the rich flavor of my tomato sauce !! It was a real feast, as usually these huge dried Portobello mushrooms come in small packages in the specialty markets, so you can’t be as generous with the use of them ! Also, made a sautéed mushroom and sweet onion topping for our Grilled New York Steaks, again...fabulous!!! I still have the two huge 1 gallon size containers left to reconstitute and cook with ! Because Portobellos are sooo healthy for humans, I used the small amount of tiny pieces left in the bottom of the bag...reconstituted and added to my German Shepherds dinner, and she LOVED the flavor, ate heartily, and showed no ill effects !! If you’re not a BIG time, cook a lot type...but love Portobellos..share a bag with a friend...It’s going to take me a month to use these up and that’s using them 2/4 times a week !! Do some online research about reconstituting, and choose the ones that make sense...there’s lots of info online and recipes too. You won’t be sorry you bought these huge mushrooms....you’re family will think there eating VERY meaty spaghetti sauce, but it’s low calorie ( heart healthy ) mushrooms instead !! Don’t FORGET TO SQUEEZE THE RECONSTITUTING JUICE OUT, before using them in a sauté or stir fry...or it will splatter in the butter or oil. HAVE FUN, BON APETIT !!

Much bigger bag than expected!
I bought this to make dry soup mixes with for my family. I was expecting something about half the size that I got. It is 1 pound of dried mushrooms. The bag is about 4-5 inches thick, about 14-16 inches long, and about 9 inches wide. So it is quite a large amount for the money paid. The only negative would be the long shipping time, but I ordered it before I would be using it to allow for the extra shipping time.

DOES NOT WORK WELL IN MY RAMEN!
Not a fan of this product. I use it when I make Ramen, but these ended being very chewy even after cooking.

Tasty
You'll need to wash these guys off thoroughly before using. Have a strong manure or fertilizer smell straight out of the bag. But other than that they're very tasty.

Delicious smokey flavor, nice thick slices, good value!
Delicious smoky flavor. Nice thick slices. I've already made mushroom stroganoff, mushroom stroganoff soup, and double mushroom pizza. Love the convenience of always having mushrooms at hand. And the soaking water makes a nice tasty broth to add to the dish. Rehydrated, 1 ounce of dried is equivalent to 10 ounces fresh. So the price is right, imho!

A LOT of mushrooms!
This is a BIG bag of mushrooms, you may want to share them with family and friends. Excellent flavor, nice sized slices. Simmer in boiling water a few minutes to soften, and save that liquid for a sauce or soup. This is an a wonderful value, I'll always have mushrooms on hand for soups and sauces!
