Works on brass
This lacquer works great over polished brass. Doesn't seem to dull the shine whatsoever and has no effect on the brass color hue or lustre. Don't make my mistake and try to clear coat brass or other metals with a box store acrylic clear or whatever. I used a common brand on my lamps after a thorough polishing on the buffing wheels to a perfect shine. Looked okay after spraying, but took a bit of the brilliance away. Over time however the clear started reacting with the brass, developing tiny foam looking bubbles in the coating, in addition, the brass is now tarnishing.. Bummer. Used this lacquer and it went on flawless with no issues. Perfectly clear, no bubbles, or tarnishing so far... I recommend this.

Excellent for use on brass
This does an excellent job when used on brass. Normal lacquer when used on brass will dry leaving a crystalline like glow in the light. This drys clear and smooth with no application issues.

Seems to Do the Job
Hard to tell if this spray is any better than clear lacquer. It is supposed to include tarnish preventer but it cannot be proven until it ages... and then it would still be questionable if it did better than simple clear lacquer. I note this because the cost is nearly double over normal lacquer, but since cleaning tarnish from outdoor fixtures is tedious, it was worth a try in small quantity (i.e. 1 can only). It did dry fast and evenly and provided a good overall finish.

Impressed so far.
I purchased this product with the hopes of putting a protective coating on solid brass thereby preventing tarnishing. My project during June 2016 was restoring 2 solid brass processional candles (candles) used in my RC Church. Being the old protective coating put on at the factory that made these had worn off the brass became very tarnished and worn looking. I started by using 320 grit sandpaper to begin the removal of the old worn finish, tarnish, oxidation, etc. I then continued working the candles using sandpaper in this order 360 grit., 400 grit., and finally 500 grit. I then used a metal cleaner to remove any possible tarnish that might be in some of the micro pitting that remained in the brass. I then used an automotive grade polishing compound I have with my 7 inch polisher to polish the final brushed brass finish. I then scrubbed the candles with a cleaning solution and warm water mix and rinsed thoroughly. Being it was summer and the sun was blazing I placed the candles in the sun to dry thoroughly. Once they were dried thoroughly I cleaned them with lacquer thinner. Now came the spraying process. I did this outside on a calm warm (about 85 deg.) day. I had actually let the can sit in the hot sun for about 15 mins. being I've always gotten better spraying from a warm can. I decided on doing 5 medium coats where no coat was heavy enough to cause sagging. When spraying I noticed the spray pattern was adequately wide. I sprayed from about 10 inches away. At no time during the spraying process did the nozzle produce spitting/splatter. From previous experience doing touch up on auto fenders and such I've learned you MUST keep the finger pushing down on the nozzle out of the spray or you will end up with spitting/splatter. Even the slightest amount of touching the spray will produce spitting/splatter. Also nice about the product was it's drying time to re-coat. It was basically just like auto touch up paint where within mere minutes (if that) you can spray another coat. For me it was a continuous process. After spraying an initial coat on the 1st candle and moving to the 2nd candle by the time I finished spraying the initial coat on the 2nd candle I was able to go back to the 1st candle and begin spraying another coat on it. Likewise, when I finished spraying a coat on the 1st candle the 2nd candle was now ready for another coat. I also noticed the lacquer did not change the color or tone of the candles at all. It merely adds a slight wet look (shine). The brushed brass finish remained as it was before applying the lacquer. To finish both candles I used about 1/2 a can which isn't bad. I then let these dry for about 2 weeks (old school) before returning them to the church to be put into service. As for durability I can't offer much at this time other than to say they've been used for 3 weekends where we have 6 masses per weekend and they are subjected to significant handling by the Altar Servers and when inspecting them this past Sunday they still looked like the day I sprayed them. I've detected no tarnish, which was the main concern. The price per can wasn't too bad and delivery from the company after I ordered it on Amazon wasn't that long. Having the product in stores (which it is not) would be a plus but so far the experience has been uneventful with no complaints. Hopefully the durability will result in at least a couple of years of service. Only time will tell.

Works Great!
First you must use a quality cleaner to get your item looking its best BEFORE using this product. It goes on evenly (good spray quality) if you spray light coats and let dry well between each coat. Only takes a couple coats and so far no tarnishing after 4 months on my brass and pewter.

Excellent - Just what I wanted!
I have old brass lighting fixtures as well as brass hinges, door knobs, etc. I wanted a lacquer that really protected the finish. Another spray brass "protector" I tried darkened the finish, which is completely the reverse of what I wanted. Right? You take a light fixture down, disassemble it, polish it, and put it back together. After all that, you want it to look bright and beautiful. Well, after spraying this product, all my brass looks fabulous! It is easy to apply. (Note: I sprayed outdoors because you don't want to breathe the fumes.) I applied 4 thin layers of spray with about 5 minutes between the coats. I had no drips, and the items seem very well protected. It worked so well that I'm looking around to see what other brass I can polish and then protect. Now we can enjoy our brass without dreading the tedious chore of reshining it regularly. Yippee!

Disappointing
It’s too soon to tell how long it’ll protect my bras lamps after DAYS of hard work. I’m a little disappointed because it took about 6 days to arrive but I had read positive reviews so proceeded to spray it on OUTSIDE. (A MUST), very potent) It dulls down the brightness and then leaves a fine rough film on top of the metal so it’s no longer smooth to the touch. It dried quickly in our TX heat but instructions said the highest temp should be no greater than 90° so one needs to prepare for that. Photo is after they were treated with several coats where they look very shiny but that’s in direct sun. Inside they aren’t that impressive. Had I known there was going to be such a dulling down of the shine I would’ve used linseed oil.
