X-Wing Starfield Playmat

This is a 3x3 foot square rubber mat with a starfield printed on one side, perfect for playing games that involve miniature space ships, such as "Star Wars: X-Wing." I bought this as an anniversary gift for my husband and he was thrilled when he got it!The package seal was broken when I received it, but the mat seemed to be in pristine condition. The mat is a thin rubber, so it's a bit floppy, even when rolled up. This made it impossible to get it back in the box again, so he'll have to store it somewhere else. Perhaps in a poster tube? It did have a bit of an odor when my husband unpacked it, sort of a chemical/rubber smell. But I expect that will fade the first time he lays it flat and actually plays a game on it. He's very pleased with the mat. Apparently, when you play on a table top, the little space ships can slide around and fall over, but with the mat, they'll stay put, exactly where they're supposed to be.It's the sort of item that's very useful to have (if you're into miniature space games), but since it's fairly expensive, it's hard to justify buying it for yourself. That's one of the reasons I bought it for him. I knew he would get a lot of use and enjoyment out of it, but he wouldn't ever dream of buying it on his own.Four stars, because of the fact that it's so very floppy, and because of the odor, and the fact that we received an opened box. Other than that, it looks great and should be a real hit with anyone who enjoys "Star Wars: X-Wing," or any type of miniature space game.

This one is a tricky one! Do you want one? Definitely! Is it too expensive? Most likely. Will it make my gaming experience better? Quite a lotThis mat is made of a rubbery bottom with a glued piece of fabric with a starfield pattern, the star wars logo on a corner. Think of it as a thinner gigantic mousepad. Being 36"x36" it is not very portable, unless you want to spend more money on a poster tube. I have use it for about one month and a half, about 10 games and so far it holds fine. My earliest concerns were that the fabric would unglue with time, specially in the corners, as it would be expected of a mousepad with time. So far this has not happened. It has affected my gaming experience positively. I usually took a lot of time to set the play area in the right dimensions and even used a felt cloth as mat sometimes but it would move a lot. This stays in place, so it makes the game easier, reduces the time to setup and is tournament regulation so it helps when running scenarios. It also looks cool to play on it. I would recommend it to anyone who is committed to this game or even to Armada. It works for both games.

At first, I was skeptical about whether this playmat was a "necessary" addition to the game. Then I played a game on it and realized how awesome it is. This playmat makes all of your X-Wing games more epic and enjoyable. Bonus points if you listen to the film score while playing. The playmat is high quality and easy to store as well.

Does what it says it does. This is like a big giant mouse pad. The mat wont slide on your table. However, the top of the mat is a bit slippery, so models can slide on it a bit easier than I would like, but still a nice playable game mat.

This (or at least something similar) is pretty much a must-have if you want to play X-Wing TMG regularly. I used to play it casually on tables with roughly defined play areas, and that was fun, but now that there's a clearly defined space for the ships I've found that I and my opponents actually USE that space. It's massively changed how I play the game and it really opens things up. Plus it just makes the entire game look that much cooler.There is one caveat though: This mat IS a giant mousepad and it really doesn't prevent accidental bumping or sliding. I've heard some people prefer using plain black yoga mats, so you might consider that if bumping is a problem for you. For casual play, though, this is perfect.

Worth the money, hands down!It makes it easy to have practice tournaments with 100 point squads or write your own campaigns and have fun that way.The ships don't slip and slide as easily and its soft to rest your elbows on when trying to judge distances and make predictions.

Very nice! Big, beautiful and the perfect service for X Wing! A little overpriced, but don't regret the purchase. And far better than buying fabric and trying to make your own!

Wonderfull playmat.It's a neoprene based playmat, so very stable, very resistant and it doesn't suffer from being folded ! Very happy.

I recently invested in the X Wing miniatures game and needed a playing mat. I looked at some of the ones with the nebula on but decided that the plain starfield would be nicer in the long run. The mat comes in a sturdy box for storage and is easy to take out and slide back in. The mat unrolls nicely and the underside grips the table and does not slide about. The surface enables the models to be moved around but is not slippy. It's perfect for the game.

Habe die Matte das erste mal bei FFG gesehen und war sofort verliebt. Deswegen direkt mit der Deathstar Matte bestellt, damit auch mal ein Epic gespielt werden kann. Ersteindruck: Echt klasse! Einmal auf den Tisch gelegt, lässt sie sich nicht ein Stück verschieben. Sie steht auch nicht an den Ecken hoch. Durch das Neopren macht es auch nichts, wenn mal etwas verschüttet wird. Einfach abwischen. Einen kleinen Wermutstropfen gibt es allerdings: Die Bases der Schiffe sind genauso verschiebungsanfällig, wie auf den normalen Spielmatten. Hatte es anders erhofft. Dafür ziehe ich aber keinen Stern ab, da es bei anderen Matten auch der Fall ist. Ich würde sie wieder kaufen!
