Rapesco 1331 Document Holder & Staple Remover, Candy Pink

... I know - it's REALLY a document/place card holder with an added staple-remover function - but forget that and look at the picture.It's a mouse.I have a mental image of someone at RAPESCO designing this item."Hey George! Come over here a moment! I've just designed a nice, new document holder!"George steps over and looks. "It looks like a mouse," he observes, "but it doesn't have a tail.'The designer peers at his creation. "You know, you're right. It DOES look like a mouse - but you're right, no tail.""Well, nothing stopping you putting a tail on it," George murmurs.The designer considers a moment, then sighs. "No, he says, "I can't do that. Who ever heard of a document holder with a tail? It would be silly ..." And then the inspiration strikes! "... but HANG ON! What if the tail had a FUNCTION? If it could do something useful, rather than just being a mouse's tail?"George is unconvinced. "Hmm. Not sure there, mate," he says. "What could you actually get a mouse's tail to do that would be worth it?"The designer thinks. "Hmm - that's the problem." He flicks absent-mindedly through his design notes while considering the matter. Then his eye lights on the staple at the top left corner. "Whoa! Got it! It can me a staple-remover! Everyone needs a staple remover. Job done, all I need to do is add a staple-remover that happens to look like a mouse's tail and it will be FABULOUS!"And there, ladies and gentlemen, is why you are being offered for sale a combined place-card holder and staple remover ... that looks like a mouse.

I am reviewing the Rapesco paper holder/staple remover.Here are my thoughts:^^ This is tiny (and in a good way) making it a great spacesaver. I mean, who needs a large document holder cluttering up their desks at a time where most offices are demanding a "tidy desk policy".^^ This is easily popped away in a drawer at the end of the working day and it doesn't take up much space on the desk or in a drawer.^^ Can also act as a staple remover with the little addition it has sticking out of the back to pop out staples. This is such a simple thing but great for me, as I am always breaking my nails doing this manually.^^ This is also handy to have in the home, not just in a home office, but for in the kitchen for things like holding a recipe, newspaper or magazine cuttings. Would also work for even displaying a menu.^^ Out of the kitchen it may also be useful to display photos, or hold sheet music or other instructions that help keep your hands free.^^ I have enclosed a couple of photos of mine holding a single thin piece of paper very firmly. It can also hold up to 20 sheets in one go.Overall:I'm surprised how something such as this (office supplies) really lights up my day. Sad I know, but I just love spacesaving, desk gadgets like these and find them very useful for all sorts of things around the house and in the office. These handy little devices have two functions, though I wouldn’t say that they do either that well.First, they’re sold as staple removers. The staple removers I’ve previously used have been little claw-type things, but these ones simply have a little plastic spike. This may work better on flat staples, but it does require you to get under each half of the staple in turn, which takes more time and effort. So, it does the job, but probably isn’t the best at doing it.Second, they can also be used as a stand. This could be quite handy if, for example, you’re trying to type something up from a document, you can have it stood beside your monitor, rather than flat on your desk. However, if your document is only paper, then it’s unlikely to be rigid enough for this to really work. In the pictures, I use an A5 envelope, which seems stiff enough, though it’s not something I often have need to hold/stand up. I could see how these could be used for things like greeting cards or photos, but they’re not the most aesthetically pleasing stand and, in any case, using them for these purposes will also get in the way of using them as staple removers. Again, it kind of does the job, but not as well as other items.In short, these are handy because they do two jobs, but they don’t do either particularly well and, as such, I wouldn’t really recommend them. I’ll call it 3* since it does do the jobs in question, but consider that rounded up from 2.5*.UPDATE: After further use, I have to admit that my original review was a little harsh. I've not found these particularly useful as staple removers, but I try not to staple things I don't want stapled. With a bit of practice, they can be useful paper holders - I find it helps if the paper can be held landscape rather than portrait. I'll leave my rating at 3*, but I now think that they fully deserve this.

Can't use the old style document holders off the side of the screen as I have a laptop- but I hate hate a desk full of "stuff" when teaching online. I have two, one either side of the screen.Wouldn't be without this for online teaching now. Means I'm flicking my eyes to the side and not down to look at notes. Makes online meeting much more professional.Takes quite a few sheets, and is surprisingly stable.Didn't get for the staple remover part!It's also tiny, and packs into my laptop holder no problems.
