Romeo and Juliet with Magic
The story premise by itself is intriguing and the main characters' interactions as they reluctantly find common ground with one another, in spite of being on opposition with one another, is enjoyable and adorable. I'm genuinely interested to see how their relationship will evolve into one of love since they seem oblivious to their own feelings and interpret them as a personal form of rivalry. There're also several mysteries the series such as the first Astral Mage and her eternal grudge against the Empire, the machinations being perpetuated by the Empire's council and how they all connect to Iska and his master.

Better than the anime!
I checked out this series because of the anime adaptation that started airing in the Fall 2020 season. The books are way better. Things make more sense and more details are filled in.

It's relatively generic but that's fine.
Essentially a person's take on Romeo and Juliet but with magic on one side and technology on the other. The story was fun and the world is relatively interesting. That being said the relationship between the two protagonist felt rushed. Nothing felt genuine. The story isn't bad just don't expect anything particularly memorable from it.

Epic
The scale and stakes here are appropriately high. Looking forward to seeing how this develops- it's quality stuff. Highly recommended.

Awesome
I absolutely loved this book, so much so I went and bought the 11 currently available volumes. The dynamic between the two main characters is really fun as they go from enemies to friends/rivals and clearly are on the path of love. While the romance is slow, which should be a given since they are enemies in a war, it’s still the focal point. Iska and Alice’s relationship is the driving force of the story.I know some people want them to instantly fall in love but that’s unrealistic. Alice is a princess trying to become queen, her country hates the empire. Iska is also something of an ace for the empire who also hates Alice’s country. They both would be hunted down, imprisoned/executed if they were seen getting too close. They both know this, but despite that, both knowing they should be killing each other, they respect and trust each other. Throughout the story they are forced into situations where they can’t rely on their countries, and have to put their faith in each other. It’s really a beautiful and fun read. As a reader you have to accept that until the war ends they can’t truly be together. If you like action, magic, mysterious characters, slow built up romance and your normal anime type tropes, you will love this series. If you are a generic edge lord who thinks call of duty is the best game while chugging monster energy drinks you probably won’t like it.

Very good story.
A very good story. Solid writing. I though it was priced a little too high at $7.99 but I am glad I purchased it. It is better than a lot of the Kindle Unlimited free content out there now.

Don't buy this if you're after the romance
I bought volumes 1 to 4 when I saw the anime adaptation. Then I got so interested that I've read the manga. The moment Sisbell appeared in the story, I hunted the LN spoilers LOL. And that's when I've decided to drop and return the LNs I bought. I find it frustrating, romance-wise. Ugh, I can rant about it all day. I'm thankful for the spoilers for without which, I would have wasted my time and money on this. The Japanese LN I think is already at volume 10 and the romance is still nowhere. The female characters were just drawn towards Iska. At least Kirito married Asuna.

Good plot idea, horrible dialogue
Apparently, the author has taken his skills to write dialogue out of a burning dumpster fire. While the basic plot holds promise, so much redundant dialogue tires the reader to the point of utter disgust. Please consider help on how to write fictious dialogue, there are a number of good books on the topic of creative writing, instead of filling pages with nonsensical trash.
