Good sci-fi adventure, just a little dated
Slippery Jim DiGritz has his hands full in this one. A planet is doing what has heretofore seemed impossible: taking over other planets by force. How this is possible is DiGritz's task, even though his wife (the equally slippery, if not more lethal, Angelina) is about to give birth. DiGritz has to infiltrate the enemy and discover its secret to interplanetary conquest.I love how DiGritz--even though he is an elite member of the Corps--keeps getting into trouble and pulling capers of his own. This book opens with him and Angelina in a non-lethal heist as part of their "vacation". This book doesn't disappoint and is a worthy successor to the debut novel in the series. Interesting storyline, engaging characters and quick pace. The Kindle edition of this book is as accessible as any Kindle book, but one can tell they were entered via OCR as there are some glaring errors (wrong words, punctuation, etc.). Not enough to be annoying, but enough here and there so that it's noticeable. As for Harrison's writing, it's crisp, clean and fast-moving. There are some anachronisms by today's standards (who uses tape for data storage anymore?), but they are easily overlooked.

A true sci-fi classic
I loved these books when I was a kid and still find myself enjoying then many years later. Highly recommended!

Can be skipped
I read novels that came later in the series before I read the first one and this one. This one can be easily skipped, as it lacks humor and easy transitions of other ones.

More excellent Harrison
Another excellent book in the Stainless Steel Rat series. Well worth reading. There are some typos in this Kindle version, seems like the original text was scanned and fed through a word processor. Nothing too bad, since tbs errors are fairly rare.

Terrific
Harry Harrison provides terrific scenarios and gripping prose. If you are able to put this down once you start it, you are probably an ex-addict and can quit anything.

Still Riveting
Great adventure, fascinating characters, fun reading. The story is timeless. Reminds me of the Remington Steele stories. To Catch a Thief!

Classic Sci-fi at it's finest.
As I'd said in a review of the first book in the series I don't know why it took me so long to get 'round to reading these novels. I used to love the version in 2000AD comic and now realise how good an adaptation they made.Okay some things may not have aged well, but then again who's to say some technology won't be reinvented and come to the fore again. And yet other ideas have yet to be brought to fruition but have possibilities. The main thing is it's a dam good romp and the characters are great fun. I'll be shelling out for the rest of the series and enjoying them very soon.On that note I'd forgotten how prolific a writer he was. Going through his bibliography there were a number of books from my childhood that I'd read and enjoyed without realising that they were by the same author.

The Rat still Lives
I read the Rat books as a teenager and loved them. Great to revisit but don't expect anything but a fun read.

Still liked
I read these books as a child, and with my kindle i am revisiting the books i liked to see if they still had the same level of enjoyment.I was greatly surprised the find that although the stories feel a little dated, the story still had me enthralled, with the next click of the page on button eagerly anticipated and the need to keep reading late into the night.A well written book that has spanned the test of time.
