Beginners set with a few drawbacks
As a beginning player, I was initially excited to buy this set. It fulfills the basic function, but if you start loving this game (which I did) you will want to upgrade very quickly. First, there are three patterns, two boules for each pattern. Typically, one-on-one play requires three balls. So with this set, you don't have what you need to play one-on-one. I recognized this early and just ordered two sets from the get go so that I could play one-on-one and with three total teams of two players each (two boules each player). That's really what you need to be flexible. Otherwise people end up standing around not participating.Remember: these aren't stainless steel. Rust will come eventually. You can spray WD40 on them when you store them, or put some talcum powder one them, but eventually, they are going to rust. I realized very quickly that I needed stainless steel boules, and then looked at the brand "Obut" which is heaven for boules. The cochonet is a little hard to see in the grass as well. Wish it were bright red.Overall, if you get two sets, you'll have what you need and can have fun with these, but you'll need something better soon. And if you are just looking for a set for yourself (three boules) to meet up with other players, this is not what you want. Get a stainless steel set from Obut that will last many many lifetimes.Update: I now use these to aim at when I'm practicing. My stainless steel Obut boules dent these every time they hit them, as where my Obut boules show very little wear. I mention Obut because they are easy to buy in the US, but there are other amazing brands as well (KTK, MS Petanque, La Boule Bleue, etc).

Tiny, tiny, tiny!
I guess it was my fault. I was looking for a full size set. These are miniature, practical marble size. You can fit the entire set in the palm of your hand and toss it all at once... I will be looking elsewhere for a real set.

The Large Balls Are A Good Value For Practice
First, I purchased these with my own money, no discount. This review is for the large boules. The small balls are just a novelty. I have a competition set of boules from Obut. I needed some target boules to practice with and Obut boules start at about $90 a set of 3. These were $26 for a set of 6. These are not competition boules, they are for casual play. I will add pictures after a few games of play. They come with basic rules in English, French, and Spanish. They also come with a string to measure distance (not very practical), a target ball, and a carrying case. There 3 sets of 3 matching balls. I knew this when I bought them but it does not affect my usage. They should really have 2 sets of 3 balls. A typical game is 2 teams of 2 players where each player throws 3 boules. You can also play with teams of 3 where each player throws 2 boules. This set only has 2 of each boule so if you wanted to buy 4 sets of 3 you could not do it by buying 2 of these sets.Another reviewer mentioned that the cochonnet (or jack, the target ball) is hard to see in the grass. These weigh 733 grams, about 26 ounces each. A typical French terrain (court) is made of finely crushed gravel. The boules need to be able to roll. Most grassy areas will be too soft, the ball will stop very close to where it lands.ProsPriceComes with the cochonnetHas a caseConsShould be 2 sets of 3 matching boules, not 3 sets of 2Casual play only

Looking for a pétanque set - this is a good choice
Quality is excellent. I was looking for a set to get into pétanque and found these and good reviews on other sites so I bought them here through Amazon. They are the correct weight and size and come in a carrying case all no larger than a small sized shipping box. Have played in the yard several times and I enjoy them.

Why are there three patterns on the boules?
Petanque is played in teams of two (team one vs. team two), or of course player one vs. player two, so there should only be two different patterns (one pattern on three boules/balls, and a second pattern on the other three boules). This petanque set has three different patterns, which would mean there are three players playing at once. This would lead to lead to very confusing games, so, I am returning the set.

These are awesome. High quality
These are awesome. High quality, shiny steel with a very nice heft. The carrying case is nice too. I've used them camping and kept adults entertained and laughing and getting to know each other for hours with these things. We made teams and after everyone's first tosses, used a coin to mark the spots so the next team could use them, thusly engaging a lot more people into the game. The game went from campsite to grass to gravel to bushes, etc, and was great fun for hours. I bought them to recreate the fun I'd had when I was similarly engaged with someone else's set, years ago, on a multi-family camping trip, and I am SO glad I did!

No need to pay the higher prices. These are as great a quality as you would ever want/need. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I got the large size which is actually the standard size. Heavy and well made. I've had the plastic ones and wanted to get a set that wouldn't break or crack. These are the ones. For the price I received far better quality than expected and have no idea how they could be better. If you look at the price range for these boche balls, they can be quite expensive. I got these for a fun backyard and RV camping game. Since they are a heavy metal, you won't be chasing a rolling ball. Includes a case and a measuring string.

Poor finish. I own 4 sets.
The balls pitted after just 3 uses.I’ve been been playing Pétanque regularly for about 3 years, and I personally own 3 inexpensive sets like this one, and one tournament set.I will say that the inexpensive sets don’t hold up as well, but this was by far the worst after just a few plays.

AWFUL CONDITION
Are you joking - I did not order an old, dirty, horrid set. This is a disgrace - not as shown not as advertised. Looks like someone found it in their dirty garage! Im shocked at the condition

Arrived with broken zipper !
Am very disappointed as arrived with broken zipper on case (see pic). Haven’t reached out to supplier cause don’t want to be bothered with exchange as I live in rural area. Otherwise, good quality balls will provide hours of fun. Very quick delivery of product.
