I've been waiting years for this book. I always hoped for a compilation of Martha's columns from the O Magazine and this year she gave us 25 of the best. Well, I think there are other pieces of hers that were equally great, if not better, so I hope Volume 2 appears in the near future.All of the essays in this collection are timely and relevant, delivered with her trademark wit and a good dose of humility. Another thing I love about Martha's advice is that it is accessible -- sure, there are psychological concepts and jargon presented, but she makes them all completely understandable and relatable. I can't really afford a life coach or a therapist, so I've always looked to Martha's words of wisdom as my own personal form of therapy and coaching. In fact, after reading and re-reading these essays, I purchased her latest book, which is of course fantastic and a fuller, more robust version of these essays.This book is well worth the $3.99 Kindle price for all of the wisdom and advice you'll get from it, and it's something you can keep going back to when life gets messy and complicated and confusing.

So, I'm not sure how I even found Martha Beck. Think it was from a magazine article. But I'm glad I did. This book is great, full of "ah-ha" moments and well written. It's the first book of hers I've ever read and I came into it knowing very little about her. I'll be looking for another title of hers to read as soon as I finish this review. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite columns in Oprah magazine was Beck’s and here they are- compiled and neatly bound. Thank you. I use these in my quiet time. I can pick one that suits my mood or challenge and have a quick reminder of the truth and love that is already mine.

What an inspiring teacher. The articles in "O Magazine' were wonderful, but now I don't have to rip out all of them to put in some bulky binder. I'm the type of person that does re-read inspiring work to help out during life's twists and turns. Yippeeee - Now these wonderful articles are all in a book - How convenient. Can't highly recommend Martha's work enough. If you're looking to make a positive impact on your life, Martha's work can truly make a difference for you, especially when you choose to apply the suggestions brought forth in identifying the obstacles in thinking that are holding you back. You know what your answers are, you just have to learn how to listen to you. Let Martha guide you in that process, She's made a huge difference in my life with not only her words of wisdom, but her processes, her charm wit and humor.

It will not be an exaggeration to say that her books saved my life...or at the least influenced me in the most decisive way possible. This collection is not an exception. For a long time I tore the pages with her articles out of Oprah magazine and kept them in a folder and now I do not need to. The writing is original. There is nothing in it which she did not deal with herself. Her writing shows what happens to people and their talents when they take risks and live their authentic lives! EVERYBODY should read EVERYTHING that Martha Beck writes. What a unique talent with incredible depth! I would have given this book 6 stars if I could and I do not do anything like that often.

An ample, affordable introduction to this writer, who tackles her writer's woes with a great deal of humor, common sense, and a healthy dose of Buddhist thought.

Martha Beck is the sole reason I subscribe to O magazine..... Her columns are occasionally some typical life or personality issue, but just as often the topic is something not usually written about, and contain gems of wisdom, info, understanding about some aspect of life. This book is a collection of those essays over years. I'll be buying the other collections as well; my drawers overflow with the magazine pages ripped out for future re-contemplation. Love Martha Beck for real advice and insight ---, not the usual self-help psycho-babble.

I was sorry to put this book down and will certainly keep it handy to pick up and read the individual articles. Martha gives such good advice and makes you think about a situation. Easy to read almost as if she is sitting down with you for a chat over coffee. Her personality shines through and one has to laugh at her occasional sharp wit. Thoroughly recommend reading and keeping this collection - we all need a heart to heart bit of advice now and again and Marta does not fail to give it.

Fab book I love her down to earth attitude and it’s an easy read, made me laugh on occasion

I really love the way Martha Beck has written this. Enlightening, humourous, a pause for thought. I thought it might be a bit to "americanised" for me, but have been pleasantly surprised.A must read for anyone who wants to think about life from another angle and develop some common sense logic to whats going on in their life.I am very likely to read more from this author.

Every time I open this book and read one of the articles I get something new out of it. Martha writes with good humour and totally hits the nail on the head about some of the thorny issues everyone encounters in life. She offers practical solutions to reframe and address problems, whist making you laugh throughout. A great resource for life!

Martha Beck has a gift for sharing tough advice with great humour. This combination makes it easy to follow her ideas and put them into practice. I love her work.
