Great photos but lacking in detail
I like the DK series of guidebooks in general since they are often amongst the best when it comes to posting great colorful photos of the destination. However, if traveling in this region, you'll probably want to supplement this book with another book (or a lot of internet research) that will provide more of the essential details you'll need.

Recommend for travellers
this book came in a good shape,,, its colours are vibrant and very clear printing quality... since this edition is the latest so it has most resent activities and hot spots in Malaysia and singapore as well as their maps.i am very happy with this guide,,, it will give me a big deal of help during my upcoming visit... as usual DK Eyewitness series is amazing.

Great details!
Loved that both countries are combined into one book and thus I didn't need to carry around two! I always love Eyewitness Travel Guides!

Needs more info on certain regions
I'm not visiting whole Malaysia. But being a guide for the country I was expecting more info on the place I will be soon visiting (Langkawi). Unfortunately, the info for that particular region is very concise. Kuala Lumpur on the other side is well developed.

Excellent
I always buy and use a guide like that in my travels. It helps me to know in advance the places I am going to. In addition to this, its easy and pleasurable to explore it.

Pictorial Malaysia ,the islands and Singapore
Malaysia and Singapore DK Eyewitness travel (2013)There are many different guide books available – all covering the basics of What to see , Where to stay /eat/drink/be amused and, Something of the history of the countries/cities/areas of the and fauna/flora. Travel essentials and local customs are also covered. Which guide you ultimately select (and we have tried most of the available guides – all of which had something to offer) comes down to what particular detail(s) you want. We tend to visit far off lands from cruises or from land tours where the accommodation is pre booked. What we mainly look for is a guide of what to see/do/special requirements, some history and particularly any information on flora and fauna. We like pictures, maps and diagrams and tend to get the DK Eyewitness series - hence our choice for our (brief) visits to Malaysia and Singapore (and possible pre planning of other trips to Borneo in the future. The book starts with an overview, history, background to peoples, fauna and flora, areas of interest then goes on in details to Kuala Lumpur and areas of Malaysia. The book then goes onto the islands of Sarawak and Sabah and finally ends up with a detailed review of Singapore.Plenty of ideas of what to see in the city which we will be visiting from a cruise and other areas for future possible land tours. Preliminary view 5 star – will report after visit (November) as to whether the initial view is borne out in practice .

Okay, not great
I used this for a 2 week trip I had from Singapore up to George Town. I had the DK book, while a friend I traveled with had the Lonely Planet (LP) version for Singapore/Malaysia. Overall, the DK book had a nice introduction on the history, culture, natural world and people that live in the area, but for information to travel around it was a little too brief. The book is, to it's credit, not bad. However, it really lacks the depth of information found in the LP guide. The DK book places emphasis on pictures and would be useful if you are (pre)planning a well organized trip to the area. However, if you are planning on doing things on the spur of the moment (as frequently happened on my trip) I would strongly recommend getting the LP guide. The "Bible" for the area is the LP guide to South-East asia, but this covers additional neighbouring countries. If you are just visiting Malaysia/Singapore then LP guide to Singapore & Malaysia is what I would recommend, though this DK book does offer some information it's simply not as good.

love DK guides
I bought this Malaysia guide to research more about the country and its sights and best destinations when trying to decide on a luxury holiday. It does a good job, as do most of the DK guides, on the culture, sights, geography, etiquette, history, and traditions of the country. Excellent colour pictures to entice the traveller, and well written text. I didn't decide on a trip to Malaysia this time, but it is definatly on my wish list for a future visit!

Beautifully illustrated guide
Like many regular travellers, I love these beautifully illustrated Eyewitness guides and now have quite a large collection of them. This one does not disappoint. The only thing missing for me is a pull out map of the type you get in the 10 best series from the same stable. The only criticism is that the high quality paper results in a rather heavy book, which is not ideal for carrying around. Other than those minor gripes I give full marks.

Wonderful Singapore Travel Guide
Brilliant piece of information and guide to Singapore and beyond. There is history, travel recommendations and loads of facts to digest - it provides so many choices to explore, giving everything a flavour. Something in the book for every type of visitor whatever their hobby or interest.
