great laptop! Its only been a few days since I've received my laptop but it works flawlessly so far. the only cosmetic imperfection was a missing rubber pad on the bottom, other than that it's in perfect shape

Completely died 1 month after warranty - 4 months total use
Four months after buying the computer, it completely died. I was in the LAX airport when the computer just turned off. I thought the battery might have become unplugged. I brought it to Best Buy "Geek Squad" to diagnose it. They originally told me that a "fuse" of sorts had popped and that I needed to reset it with a "pin-hole-reset". This worked the first time. I took the computer home after paying another $75 to Best Buy. The computer then continued to turn off three more times at faster and faster rates (10 min was the last one). Finally the pin hole reset failed to work and the laptop was returned to Geek Squad. They are guessing what the problem might be but a motherboard replacement is probably the start. I bought this factory refurbished, as I have several of my Apple products. Apple backs their factory refurbished items with a year warranty, Toshiba backs theirs for three months; one month shy of when mine died. I bought it for Excel and email, and I only had four months of use.

A lot of computer for a good price.
I bought this for my son to take to college. So far, he is thrilled with it and I am like it as well. I upgraded to Windows 10 with no issues and everything has been running great. My only concern is how well the hinge will hold up over time. It is not a problem now, I'm just a little concerned about the long term.

Surprisingly awesome...but...
Well, after over 7 years with my last Toshiba laptop I went on the hunt for a replacement following an expected hard drive failure. After months of searching for what I needed/wanted, I found this one. The 3 star rating has nothing to do with the actual functionality of the unit, only a couple of problems that existed. To break it down:1) The screen had a "clean" looking area in the middle, with the surrounding edges dimmer (picture a dusty window and you only wipe a clean circle in the middle). I thought it might be on the outside, but it wasn't.2) The other issue was (something I've read from others) the fan noise. The fan would ramp up and it was making contact with something inside the chassis (remember back when we, as kids, would actually play outside? And we put playing cards in our bike spokes? That's similar to the sound it made). Now, after tapping the bottom of the unit a few times, that went quiet, but it would return after handling it a bit. When the fan wasn't tapping away, it was very quiet. Those are the only 2 bad things, and are not indicative of a properly running unit. The good:1) Wow...this sucker booted up from full off to full on in less than 10 seconds (I counted to 6 and it was on the desktop). The SSD route is the only way to go. How I managed with a slow as death HDD is beyond me.2) Multi tasking - slick as can be, no lag, and fast as I could possibly see needing.3) Screen - very nice4) 360 degree rotation - awesome. Some may think it's too clumsy being so large, however I have NO problem kicking back in my recliner and using it as a tablet, and the touchscreen works flawlessly so far. My ole Asus TP tablet is now a coaster.5) Looks - very nice, very slick and modern/techy looking6) Connectivity - could use another USB 3.0 port, but that's not a huge deal. What's there works great.7) Windows 8.1 - not really sure yet, but with Windows 10 coming out today I'll hold thoughts on that.8) Bottom heat - gets warm on my lap, but not uncomfortable.9) Lighted keyboard - looks great. The only thing I would prefer is a proximity function perhaps. The only way the lights come on (that I've found so far) is to tap a key. So in the dark you have to hit a key, and (depending on what is open) may have to backspace what you just typed.10) Touch pad - works great. 2 finger side swipes do the same thing as touching the screen and swiping, so you don't have to reach out to the screen if it's in laptop mode. Clicking can be a bit tricky, but that's just an adjustment to make to what you're used to.11) Pre loaded apps - of course there are several. But just go in and delete the ones you don't want. Do that right out of the box, as well as doing all updates.12) Battery life - still "testing", but I took it to work and had it on all day (not always in use), and didn't put it on the charger until I got home that evening. I did find something a bit odd though...I left it sitting in hibernate mode the other night (fully charged) and it was dead by the next night. I didn't expect that, so will have to check into that some more.13) Speakers/Sound - seriously some of the best I've heard on a little laptop. You won't get booming bass, but it is nice and plenty loud for this type of unit. I was surprised a bit at this being a bit of an "audiophile" with self installed home theater equipment, etc. I put it on in the kitchen while prepping a meal and it filled the room no problem. And there's more, but that's the jist of it. I did have to return this unit due to the 2 issues, but I am having them send a replacement, not a refund. If the issues are gone on the new one, I'll put this lil sucker at 4-5 stars no problem.

wireless issue is real and can't be fixed with updates.
Had to send it back...twice. I thought the wireless issue had been dealt with, but it had not. Too bad...I liked the specs. It also had a faulty keyboard on one of them. Way to many issues to be reliable and I can't have an unreliable computer.
