One of the most important aspects of a Hindi word is its gender. All the author had to do was add an 'm.' or an 'f.' after the word and this dictionary would have been quite useful for those of us studying Hindi. As it is, I find it practically useless. The best dictionary is still Rupert Snell's....the only problem with that one is that there aren't enough words in it. I hope he does a more extensive version one day.

This small, inexpensive dictionary is packed with useful vocabulary. Hindi entries are presented in both Devanagari and Roman script. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to acquire a sound knowledge of Hindi vocabulary.

It is currently next to impossible to create a decent Hindi/English dictionary for the Kindle for the simple reason that you can't type Hindi characters to search for a word. The author could have made searching a bit easier by embedding a decent table of contents with hyperlinks to the start of every Hindi character (or really, to the start of every couple of characters) but no such luck. The dictionary has for the most part a single meaning for every word, missing out on a lot. Hindi has gender for most nouns and here too, this dictionary has some (pita or dad is masculine but kutta, or dog has no gender mentioned although it too is masculine). To overcome the fact that you can't even display Hindi characters on the Kindle the author displays pictures of each page and does provide the ability to search for the English word (presumably by associating some tags with each picture) - a laudable effort that earned him the second star.If you need a Hindi dictionary I would strongly recommend sticking with the paper versions for now - this is a waste of money. If you want to learn Hindi vocabulary, go to [...], download Anki, download the Teach Yourself Hindi vocabulary set and have a go at it - for learning vocabulary or pretty much any other purpose, this is of extremely limited use.

I love this book. Its basically a dictionary. Wonderful!

too small to read the Devangari script even after maxing out th Aa option making this volume useless. i would like an updated larger print or my money back so that i can find a legible dictionary.

Maybe I had too high expectations, but this was a disappointment. Very un-userfriendly.
