Ketogenic Cookbook: Nutritious Low-Carb, High-Fat Paleo Meals to Heal Your Body

a must for anyone interested in following a ketogenic diet
I just got my copy in the mail today. I haven't made anything yet, BUT, I have enough cookbooks and cooking experience to know that these recipes look really good! First of all, the book is beautifully designed, styled, photographed and printed, with clear full-page layouts of each recipe, with full-color photos on the facing page (some shorter recipes have the recipe and photo on one page). Recipes are labeled as "Keto," "Dairy-free" or "Nut-free," and the prep time, cooking time, and special equipment needed are all noted and easy to spot because of the good, clean design. At the bottom of each page is concise nutritional information, including total calories, and grams of fat, protein, carbohydrates, and fiber, and percentage of calories from fat, protein and carbs, making it very easy to keep track of your macronutrients if you're following a ketogenic diet. But I think anyone of a paleo persuasion will find these recipes enticing, not just those who want to be strictly keto. The book sections include introductions by Jimmy and Marie, then short chapters on:What Is the Ketogenic Diet? The History of KepoWhy Going Keto Will Heal Your BodyThe Nuts and Bolts of Ketogenic NutritionKeto and Paleo Are a Match Made in HeavenCooking KeptSpecialty IngredientsThen, the bulk of the book is devoted to the luscious-looking recipes, in the following sections:Condiments, Dressings, Broth, and Other BasicsBreakfastAppetizersBeef and LambPorkPoultryFish and SeafoodVegetarian DishesSidesTreatsFinally, there are sections on Resources, Meal Plans, Acknowledgments, a Recipe Index (with thumbnail photos!), and a general index. Yay! I love a well-organized cookbook with indexes! And these look like recipes I will actually cook. I follow a more-or-less paleo diet and avoid most processed ingredients, but I do use whey protein, MCT oil, erythritol, etc., and I have no problem with a little cheese. I think I'll even be able to cook these for my elderly parents and they won't know they're "diet" recipes. The recipes mostly look fairly simple and straightforward, but not excessively basic, practical and real, as well as luscious. Did I mention they look luscious? And there are not a lot of excessively exotic or hard-to-find ingredients, unless you consider smoked paprika to be exotic. The "special equipment" notes at the bottom of pages simply refer to food processors, blenders, pressure canners, grills, etc.I'm salivating as I decide which recipe to try first. I think I'll go with "Caramel apple dutch baby," as it looks wonderful and only requires a blender plus ingredients I have on hand. The caramel apple sauce calls for butter or coconut oil, powdered erythritol, unsweetened almond milk, se salt, and apple extract. OK, I don't have apple extract, but that's called for in the batter as well, so I guess I'll look for that.OH, here's one I must try, in the appetizer section: Bacon-wrapped cheese curds! There are also bacon-wrapped onion rings. Why didn't I think of that??The recipes are creative, not just all steak and cheese sauce. And there are vegetables! There are lots of recipes with cheese, but also dairy-free alternatives if that's a problem, and the recipe for dairy-free nacho cheese sauce looks pretty great. There's a recipe for herb-infused compound "butter" using tallow or leaf lard and such fat, if you prefer dairy-free. There are variations provided as well.As for bread? Fear not, there are gluten-free, nut-free recipes for keto pizza crust, keto bread, and keto naan. For those on the autoimmune protocol, these and some other recipes rely on eggs, egg whites, or egg protein powder, so be forewarned. There are recipes using coconut milk and coconut oil, but it's not all coconuts all the time.To sum up, this cookbook looks like a must for anyone interested in following a ketogenic diet for more than two days, paleo eaters who want some fresh, creative ideas, or anyone who loves nutrient-dense, sugar-free, low-carb delicious food. I can't wait to dive in.

Finally, ketogenic moves beyond eggs and dairy!
Really great cookbooks, like The Ketogenic Cookbook, inspire us to think about food differently than we have in the past. They introduce us to new ways of cooking with familiar ingredients. They encourage us to take the recipe suggestions as a template for our own experimentation. They open doors to new ideas and tastes. This cookbook does all of that, and makes us healthier in the process!I am excited that this cookbook includes a plethora of recipes that are not egg and dairy focused. One thing I found when trying the ketogenic diet was that my consumption of dairy went through the roof; I later found this is something I do not tolerate as well. This book provides many options that I had not considered before even with dozens of hours invested in reading online blogs and other keto books.I am most excited for the prospects this cookbook has to educate and inspire professional and even industrial chefs. Yes, you can make flourless bread using egg whites. Yes, you can serve noodles made from zucchini. No, dessert does not have to be doused in four varieties of sugar. I hope in the not too distant future the foods in this book are the types I can find at my local restaurants. I also hope the basic concepts in here are used by grocery stores and big food companies to develop a new generation of "ready made" concepts that make us healthier rather than sicker. We are at a turning point in the foods we consider healthy and nourishing. The Ketogenic cookbook provides ample evidence to conclude that these new (yet very old) ways of eating can be far more delicious than the Standard American Diet (SAD) we've come to know.I highly recommend this cookbook for anyone looking towards the ketogenic, low carb or paleo way of eating. These recipes will take time to make, but they are an investment in the future of your own health and longevity. I personally will not make many of the recipes in here verbatim, but will rather use them for ideas and inspiration to add variety to my own creations.

very disappointing
For anyone who likes to cook with REAL food and REAL ingredients, this book is such a disappointment - way too many ingredients such as liquid smoke, xylitol, guar gum, egg protein powder. If you want to eat ketogenic and don't care about the ingredients too much, I guess this book is fine, but if you prefer real food that hasn't been processed, many of the recipes will be a waste of time.

Deserves 10 stars!
Got this book today after eagerly waiting for its UK release and it's everything I was hoping for! Fangirling and squealing aside I'm going to attempt a serious review. Not only is The Ketogenic Cookbook choc full of the beautiful pictures and delicious sounding recipes, it also takes the opportunity to educate the reader on the keto way of eating and why it's beneficial. An informed eater who understands what they're doing and why makes better decisions when it comes to food. The writers also take the time to explain keto nutrition in layman's terms, explain the best sources of fats and carbs, fats and proteins, and list explanations of any specialty ingredients. There's stuff for the experienced keto follower to learn as well as the newbies. As it's American in origin the recipes are in ounces (not the end if the world with decent scales) with some bits in cups (available on Amazon or in the pound shop.) There's also alternatives listed for those avoiding dairy. The nutritional information per serving for each item is especially valuable for macro tracking. The Ketogenic Cookbook is well presented and incredibly well thought out. A little expensive but you get a LOT of book for your money and am happy to wholeheartedly recommend it. This one book alone is enough to give someone a good start to their keto journey.I can't wait to get baking and am already looking forward to a volume 2! Hint hint to the writers...
