Slices well!
What this knife does best, it does exceptionally well: it slices bread into even slices. Being very frustrated with a standard bread knife and my inability to make even slices, I looked for an alternative tool and found this. I read the reviews, and I found the most credible negatives were its sharpness. It does a fantastic job slicing my very crusty homemade bread into slices I can use in the toaster or making a sandwich. It also does a fantastic job cutting fingers. I’ve owned it for a month and a half and have cut myself at least three times. It’s awkward to clean the blade (one cut), awkward when you get to the last slice and don’t have much purchase to hold what remains of the loaf (second cut), and when a slice gets stuck by the crust, difficult to free it from the not-sharp side (third cut and almost the fourth). This is more of a warning than a discouragement. Great slicer. I’d buy another.

Awesome bread knife
I am so glad a friend told me about this knife! I bake a lot of breads and it is difficult to slice them consistently with a regular bread knife. With this bow knife, I can also consistently slice it thinner than it's set width. Love it! I will be buying one for my daughter...

I wanted to like this. I like that it is wood handled
I wanted to like this. I like that it is wood handled, not plastic, and American-made. It is razor sharp. But the cutting depth guide is not adjustable and it's too thick for my needs. I end up using just the blade like a regular bread knife, and I still can't get a uniform thickness slice of bread with it, so it is no better than a bread knife without the bar, and more awkward with the bar. Too expensive for something that doesn't work for me. Your mileage may vary, but unless you are sold on this style of knife you may want to go with something less expensive to start. It's well made and lovely so if you like this kind of knife it would be a worthwhile tool to have. For me it is a white elephant.

Works well.
No way to sharpen or change blade. I would have given it 5 stars.

Great product, suggested an improvement
Very helpful to cut even slices. One improvement would be to make the cutting edge of the blade just a little lower than the wood bow. As it is, they are even - so when you cut to the bottom of the bread, the slice often sticks between the blade and the bow. Then I have to maneuver it out by hand.

awkward to use
I was very disappointed in this knife. Although it was razor sharp, it was very uncomfortably balanced and felt extremely awkward to use.

Love it.
Use every day. Cut a perfect slice every time. Occasionally you have to give the bread a little nudge out of the knife. No big deal. Bought for myself and then as gift.

I really like this knife
I thought i had ordered the adjustable knife (the picture showed the adjustable knife -- but the ad was selling the original knife) I contacted Mountain Woods about returning this knife. To my surprise they let me keep that knife plus sent me the adjustable knife.Several years ago i received the original fiddle bow knife as a present. I have used this knife to slice bagels and bread. It works great. This knife never needs sharpening.
