these pencils are more like finishing pencils that you might use to "crisp" up ...
I've used derwent pencils for years and I prefer them over these pencils, as they are softer and have a much more intense color than these pencils; The tombow pencils are heavier in your hand and the marks they produce are much harder to erase. these pencils are more like finishing pencils that you might use to "crisp" up a graphite drawing. These pencils are harder to shade with that derwent pencils or a regular #2(which is a HB). These are great pencils, but the cedar wood offers no other benefit in my book, other than producing a very defined line, even if you are not making a line, but simply shading....the eraser is nice and allows for a very small areas and tight spots with more control as it is encased in a eraser holder; the eraser does not completely erase marks from these pencils, though. A kneaded eraser is still better. My advice is don't press down too hard on the paper or you'll leave a pencil mark that cannot be erased completely. this is a great starter set, but not for serious graphite artists.

Overall softer and darker lead
I bought these as well as the Faber-Castell 9000 Design Pencil, bought these mainly because they were reviewed to be darker in color and it came with a 6B.First of all these do not came sharpened like the 9000, which some people may prefer, but I happen to have a hard time finding a good sharpener and I'm too lazy to sharpen them with a knief. so I couldn't get a nice and sharp point to try them out with. they also don't come with a re-usuable container like the 9000 - no big deal.I compared these two brands in the photo, shown from left to right with a single line - light pressure - heavy pressure for the according pencils. It is clear to me that the Tombow ones have softer lead in general and the tonal change rather mild from one grade to another. Where as the Faber-castell covers a wider range from B to 5B. Tombow's 6B does give me softer and darker tone as I wanted for contrast, so overall this is a good set.the eraser pencil - it's meh - I reviewed the erasers in a two pack - in summary: the eraser's ability to lift graphite depends on the paper you use.

Great drawing pencils, wonderful eraser
These are great drawing pencils. They have a good line to them and the graphite doesn't break as easily as many others I've used. As good as the pencils are, however, what I really love is the eraser that comes with this pack. I've never used one like this before. It's roughly the size of a thin pen and works like a mechanical pencil, only there's a skinny eraser inside rather than an ink or graphite cartridge. It erases cleanly and its small size makes it easy to maneuver to fix small errors in tight areas of your drawing without erasing more than you wanted to like you tend to with larger erasers. I intend to order more of these. The only downside to them is that there doesn't seem to be a way to retract the eraser once it's outside the casing.

I LOVE THESE!!! The pencils are great but the real treat is the eraser pen or stick!
I oordered the set of 5 (I think) pencils because I like Tombow pencils, what sealed the deal for me was the eraser pen. I have been wanting one of these for a while but with Christmas looming up ahead I had to put my wants on the back shelf for a while...until I saw this set! What a great buy! If you tried to buy the items separately it would be quite a bit more. It doesn't sound like much but that 1-click button has been getting a work out from both me & my daughter (she pays her own bill, I don't want Dr. Phil on my back.) Then the horrifying bill comes! Watch out for that, it adds up fast! Anyway back to the order:The pencils run a bit darker or softer (however you choose to word it) then my other brands & that is not a bad thing, it is good to know though. They really lay down a nice smooth line & they blend easy. The eraser is GREAT! It is so tiny! About a quarter the size of most click eraser pens, so you can get into tiny, tiny, tight places. The only negative I can come up with is there is no extra erasers with it. The piece in the pen is only about 2" long so you may want to order more at the same time. I solved that problem by ordering 2 sets, I am now going to order some refills though. It is not the eraser that you will use to clean out a large area, it is more another drawing tool. I use it for drawing and to clean out tight areas in my finish work on a drawing. I have only used this with graphite, I don't know how it would work on colored pencil. Both are a GREAT BUY!

Great Deal on Awesome Supplies
The Tombow Mono pencils are great. Really, all of Tombow's pencils are great, but Mono is one of their lines designed specifically for drawing and they work well for that. The leads are sturdy on even the soft pencils and you can sharpen them to very keen points without having them break off in the sharpener. One odd thing is that the set includes the range from 6B to 2H, but skips from HB to 2H without including an H pencil; so be aware of that if you really need an H hardness pencil for some reason. The Mono Zero eraser is a real treat! These things are great for adding highlights or cleaning up very small, precise areas in a drawing. You can also purchase refills to extend the eraser's useful life. Mostsmall sets of high-quality drawing pencils cost around $7-$12, and the Mono Zero eraser purchased by itself is $4-$6 depending on sales and things. Since you get a set of quality pencils AND a Mono Zero eraser, this set is a really fantastic deal.

Great quality for a great price
I got these based on some web reviews and a recommendation from another pencil set review. The price didn't hurt either. These are great drawing pencils, especially for those looking to improve their skills. They sharpen easily, and didn't break once. They are also great when blending. The added eraser is awesome! It works really well when working with fine details. I definitely recommend these if you are looking for some quality pencils but aren't ready to jump into the high price tag of some other brands.
