Young Adult/Child at Heart Fantasy (the audiobook)
I bought the audiobook, having read the print version years ago. At first the voices and personalities did not mesh well with my own imagination's inner voice but I got used to them . Still, reading lets me imagine things the way I prefer them, so I still enjoy a good read. One review comparing Edding's work to a pastiche of Tolkien revealed to me how some people read one work - often whatever is most common and whatever it is that everyone else is reading - and unfairly (and inaccurately) compares it to every other book. Eddings tastes more like Lloyd Alexander's Pyrdain (Taran and Garion), Ivanhoe, Robin Hood, and other more humanistic works. With a great deal of imagination and creativity and story telling. His works are a bit male oriented, but the writer is a guy. He does not indulge is men-only stories, though; the ladies are always there with the guys. A relief from the loveless, sexless fantasies of others.People discuss high fantasy and low fantasy - I call Eddings "ordinary people" fantasy. His characters are exaggerated (everyone's characters are) but somewhat flawed and human. Not cloying funny-looking humans (Elves, Dwarves, and What-not) but rather humans who look funny and behave funny. And have their own quirks and unique talents. The magic is limited but can be powerful; occasional romps of combat occur; but this is very much a people story. Personalities.I would not reccommend this (or any book) to Dungeons & Dragons fans (or any such pencils and paper role-playing game). Except as an escape from the rich immersion of such games. D&D cannot compare to books; nor books to D&D.But for fans of ordinary fantasy fiction this is worth a try. Check out a library book or borrow one before buying. And, no, I am not dn Eddings fanboy fanatic. Some of his works do not interest me. The same way I enjoy some of Peirs Anthony's books but hardly all.I have other interests, to be sure, but books like Eddings works gives me a good story to read now and then.

Love the story but had problems with performance
The audible performance was well, bothersome. Pronunciation and accents used by performer were not well done. Almost all characters sounded like a poorly performed version of Disneyβs Frozen movie casted with first year acting students and everyone sounds like Sven or Olaf

Great way to end a series
I've been reading and re-reading the Belgariad and the Mallorean for may years. Now I have them on my kindle. This is the last book in the Mallorean and Eddings makes a great effort to tie up many of the loose ends in the series and to potentially set the scene for a further series of books about Polgara's twins (never happened sadly). The book and the series swing along with some emotional highs and lows. The action is well written and the interplay between the characters is as wryly humourous as ever.

Completely satisfied
This is the third copy of this particular book in the series I have bought. I've had them all since they were published and have read them over and over and over. Fortunately I have been able to get the original cover on the books I've replaced. My only complaint is the books are not on Kindle. The print in the books is very VERY small and getting harder and harder to read..

Can I give this -1000 stars?
I read and enjoyed the Belgariad - in fact; it really shook me up, emotionally. I even cried. But this tripe - this Mallorean -five books of vacuous-ness of utterly wasted words on paper that poor trees were cut down to deliver! The horror, the horror! To say it was bad is an insult to things that are truly bad. This was beyond awful. I have created more plausible storylines on cocktail napkins. I have read more entertaining and witty prose on the bathroom wall at the port authority. This series should have never happened - it was as if - the big monumental saving of the world in the first series didn't "count", like - oh, that - we weren't serious - NOW you really get to save the world. With a cast of thousands across a landscape with an ever growing map and mass of continents and cities with similar names (the better to confuse you to keep you from noticing the lack of plot, character development or anything really but beleaguered blather and expositional dialogue for 2000 freaking pages) the highest compliment I can give this series is - that the books seemed to bounce nicely off of my bedroom wall after I had hurled them at it.Big Dave has issues with women too - I find it frightening that his wife had anything at all to do with these books. She must be freaking Donna Reed or something because the fifties ideals here are so outdated I was aching to read Camille Paglia. All of the women are sniveling idiots, crying, giving birth, cooking and cleaning - and not a whole hell of a lot of anything else. An all powerful Sorceress can only be fulfilled by giving birth? Oh yeah - right! What is this - the Hill Country or something? How backwoods can you be?Stay away - read something else - anything else - the back of a box of crackers - the label on a can of cheese whiz - trust me. You will be better off.

Great Series!
My daughter in law bought the first four books in this series for herself, and then couldn't get into them, so she passed them on to me. I read the first one and was hooked. Just recently bought this one and finished it, and now I am eagerly awaiting the prequel trilogy to see how it all started. I am now a confirmed fan of David Eddings, and I am looking forward to reading more of his books. Get the whole series... you won't want to put them down!

An Awesome Read
You will never go wrong with a David & Leigh Eddings books. The violence and sexual content is far worse on shows like Law and Order. They tell a great story but the violence and sexual reference are not detail to the point of blood and gore. The sexual content is more about the falling in love then detailing sexual acts. I would like a 10 year old read the books.

Great book
The climax of the Mallorean Series. A great series I really enjoyed from years ago and now. Just to let you know this is really the climax unlike book 5 of the Belgariad. I would say it is better to read the Belgariad first but you don't need to have read it to read this series but I would read the first 4 books of The Mallorean before reading this. This is the end and the other series by David Eddings are not linked to this and this is the final time you will see Garion. However although Belgarath & Polgara are prequals to both The Belgariad and The Mallorean Series they were written after The Mallorean so the true ending is at the end of those books as it tells you about what happened when the adventure ended. I loved David Eddings books but to be honest with possible exception of The Redemption of Altheus The Belgariad Series , Mallorean Series, Polgara and Belgarath are the only ones that are really good.
