Great movie but the Amazon Prime streaming version is HORRIBLE.
I need to be clear. This is a GREAT movie. This is a specific review of the version that is included on Amazon Prime Video. The quality of this transfer is so horrible, that it makes watching the movie nearly impossible. It literally has no redeeming qualities at all. The gamma adjustment (brightness balance) is completely off, the colors are even completely out of range and the resolution looks like they used a potato to make the transfer.I have no idea who Amazon had to get this version from, but frankly, with this low level of quality it should be the provider paying amazon to put this travesty online.

Avoid the Olive BR and get the Authorized Paramount version on BR or DVD
wow... so many editions of this fine film...most of them are public domain and POOR quality. Olive films which seems to have some rights where Paramount are concerned recently issued this on DVD and Blu Ray (the first blu ray release) and sadly, it was a very Poor transfer... as I like to say "when you buy Olive, sometimes you get the PITS"!I saw it issued for the second time on Blu Ray and this time "authorized' and from original film elements was added... so I took a chance and Voila! This is the edition to get on Blu Ray... staggeringly better than the recent Olive Blu ray and this one also has all the fun bonus features the authorized Paramount DVD release had from a few years back.A fun film, directed by under appreciated Andrew V McLaglen and featuring a young Stefanie Powers... to boot. I think you know about this movie if you are looking at reviews I wanted to weigh in and let fans know to ONLY buy the authentic Collector's Editions on Blu Ray... avoid OLIVE's version...

Kind of how I remember most westerns
This is how I remember most westerns. A bit of tension between the haves and have nots, tension between native Americans and white settlers. Tension between the land owners and sooners. And of course, man and woman. It's a decent enough John Wayne movie, and a western that's pretty forward thinking showing how everyone can get along. It's memorable for the mud fight scene and the finale where Wayne goes after the object of his affection with gusto like a juggernaut. And thankfully we don't have anything in the way of gunfights with scores of people getting killed. In a sense it's a romantic comedy kind of western that looks at the lives of those who are just trying to make a living in a frontier town.I'm not giving it five stars because I've always had a bit of a hard time getting through this movie. Oh sure it's got a decent enough story and everything else, but have spent a lot of time out in the mountains, plains and forests, even doing some shooting and riding horses … it's like watching a more interesting movie version of what you did as a kid. I didn't ride many horses, nor shoot many guns, but I remember the heat of the sun, the taste of dust, and how great it was to quench your thirst with water from a canteen, and this movie has nearly all of that. So … it's like if you're a lawyer and you watch a movie about lawyers, it has that kind of a vibe.Anyway, it's a decent enough film. Check it out if you got nothing better to do on a lazy weekend afternoon.

John Wayne and Maurine O'Hara What More Needs Said
I have been watching this movie since I was small, a long time ago. The quality of the movie was fine for me. I could see it all and nothing was blurred. The front credits were grainy and blurry in places, but the movie is older. I've watched colorized versions of movies that look like this. So I accept it as normal. The movie. G. W. McCandles had been separated from his wife for years and all of a sudden she shows up. Katherine, his wife, comes to town because their daughter is coming home from being gone for years. Katherine decides to move back to G.W.'s home to try and convince their daughter to leave her childhood home and go home with her. We meet Indians and they have a meeting with the military who want them to go to a reservation. G.w. wants his daughter to stay at home. The town is full of wonderful characters to make you laugh. A rodeo will make you laugh. A confrontation between G.W. And Katherine will make you laugh. So basically, you will laugh and the movie will seem to short, because who doesn't want more John Wayne and Kathleen O'Hara. I watched this movie streaming from Amazon.

He was ..Tall ..Rugged and .. a Man's Man
Growing up and watching this legendary men on screen , reinforced my idea.. that Hollywood. Was so right and placing him in movies. Yes he was rather controversial and even larger than life due to the genre that he excelled in. His legacy is sealed in Film, his five living children out of 7 that are still alive deceased (Micheal d 2003,Mary Antonia d 2000). There are many who question the fact that he romanced White women,, but married only Latina females ? He also spoke fluent Spanish that was a rarety among white males at the time in 1930's.. Some accuse him of being a bigot. But all in all he was an American icon. He has a grand son (Brendan Wayne b 1972) from one of his daughters ..that is an actor (Couples Retreat,Fast & the Furious, The Mandalorian ) that recently everyone has learned that was his blood relation. His adult son's have acted as well ..and you saw the very handsome Patrick Wayne. This movie will always be in the top 10 of his features . I have had a crush on him since I was a little girl ..an no matter what people say. He will always have that charm.. that bravado.. In this movie he returns to co starring with the great Maureen O'Hara. They co-starred in "The Quiet Man".. I believe that is tied with this one as favorites. I love the story.. the Western stars ..that shine. If you love the "Old West".. then please ad this film to your list...

This is one of my favorite John Wayne movies
This is one of my favorite John Wayne movies. Always enjoy watching it. The 3 stars is not for the actual movie but for the quality of the movie I watched through Prime. It was really disappointing - I couldn't read the credits it was so poor. I've watched this movie in many formats, including VHS that were better. I'm not sure why this was the case, but it was very disappointing.I would give 5 stars if the quality of the video was better.

DVD fine - Blu ray not so much!
This review concerns ONLY the Scandinavian Blu ray/DVD combo release. At the time of writing this edition was available at a quite low price, which was really just as well. I have other films released in this series and am quite pleased with them, but this McLINTOCK! release is not without problems, all of which are on the Blu ray disc. I've no complaints about the DVD as it's more or less the same as the DVD we've had for some time - minus English subtitles, of course. There are two problems, both of which are apparent within a few minutes of the film starting. After the the credits, it will become apparent that there has been no attempt at restoration - not that this is in itself a fault, it's just disappointing. But the first thing you will notice is the colour and contrast, which are inferior to the DVD version - compare them and see! The second thing is really weird. The image is stretched. Presented in the 2.35: 1 aspect ratio, the DVD picture looks correct. The Blu ray, however has the image slightly squashed from top to bottom, making the actors look fatter than they should be. The aspect ratio of the Blu ray, unlike the 2.35:1 of the DVD, is closer to 2.55:1. I view films on a Philips 21:9 TV and the DVD image fills the screen on the 21.9 setting. To correct the distorted image on the Blu ray, I have to change the picture setting to 'Super Zoom 16:9' - not something I normally have to do for commercial DVD or Blu ray releases. This may not bother most people, but it's something to bear in mind if you decide to buy this version. Sadly, the recent US release is region 'A' locked, so I guess we're stuck with this one until a UK region 'B' one becomes available.

Why does it have to be you that stirs me?
McLintock! is directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and written by James Edward Grant. It stars John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Yvonne De Carlo, Patrick Wayne and Stefanie Powers. Music is by Frank De Vol and cinematography by William H. Clothier. It's a Panavision/Technicolor production and locations used for the shoot were Nogales, Old Tucson and San Rafael Ranch State Park, Arizona, USA. A loose reworking of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, plot finds Duke Wayne as cattle baron George Washington McLintock, whose estranged wife Katherine (O'Hara) returns with daughter Becky (Powers) to the family town after a two year absence. Having left George originally on suspicion of him committing adultery, she now wants a divorce and with it full custody of Becky. George isn't keen on the idea and Katherine's arrival in town also signals the arrival of chaos.Produced out of John Wayne's own Batjac Productions company, McLintock! became one of Wayne's most successful and popular movies of the 60's. Played for laughs, film sees Wayne surrounded by family and friends and this shines thru in the final product. It looks, and was, a fun production, its values may be dated a great deal now, but it's easy to see why the paying public warmed to it. Wayne is in his element as the tough, hard drinking and no nonsense title character, and those playing off of him are in tune with what's needed to make the comedy work. The action is well staged by McLaglen, especially a free for all punch up at a mud pit, and Clothier's photography beautifully brings the Arizona locales out from the screen. A touch too long at just over two hours, it still manages to last the course to deliver the goods for the western/comedy seeker. 7/10

Blu-ray Perfection!
This region free US import Blu-ray of Wayne's greatest comedy western is an absolute beauty to behold. Restored I believe from the original film elements owned by the John Wayne estate and his personal production company Batjack, the film has never looked better than this. "McLintock" was plagued by copyright issues and bootleg dogs for years, but now returns in all its full length Panavision glory and joyfully reunited with composer Frank De Vol's riotous original score. Wall to wall cheesy, Wayne does the best impression of himself in big lug mode ever seen on screen! The quality of the picture is absolutely astonishing, and looks like a brand new movie! Acres of extras and behind the scenes gossip. Simply terrific fun!Roger Hopkins

'SLAPSTICK'
'John Wayne' for me, the ultimate cowboy, his swagger and screenpresence made him a favourite for many.this '1963' movie loosely based on 'Shakespear's' 'The taming ofthe Shrew''John Wayne' again teaming up with 'Maureen O'hara' in this he'sa wealthy rancher and property owner, even the town bares his name'McClintock'he plays hard and drinks hard, doing things his way......howeverhis estranged wife 'Kate' turns up in town wanting a divorce andto try an persuade daughter 'Becky' to live with her, 'Becky who ison her way back home to live with her father.things ain't gonna be the same, the war of words is about to erupt.'John Wayne' is no stranger to comedy, though I do prefer his rolein films such as 'The Cowboys' 'The Shootist ' and 'True Grit' amongmany.this a light-hearted romp of 'slapstick' 'bickering' and fists flyinghardly a classic, it does however have it's comic moments.the picture quality is superior to the 'DVD' version....it is region 'A'

Entertaining and amusing
When I first saw this movie when it was released in the UK I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although my enjoyment is no less today, I fear that in the light of current attitudes regarding behaviour towards women, many will be offended at certain scenes in this movie and I can therefore not recommend it as heartily as I would like.
