Still my favorite Manga-ka
Another entry showcasing Arina Tanemura's beautiful art and storytelling. I'd read this years ago, but the twists still surprised me. I am a huge shipper and I hope that Aoba and Sakura will come together at the end.

Beautiful artwork..but otherwise couldn't handle it
This volume was a start of a manga series I wanted to try because the same mangaka/author also wrote one/created one of my favorite animes of all time Full moon wo sagashite. Although this was enjoyable, I feel that it has not aged well with time and this is why.• First off the world and art are beautiful and amazing and I loved it alot. However, there were moments where although the art was gorgeous it was unclear to me what was happening especially towards the end.• Second off, it's a very trope heavy. Japanese fantasy manga/anime is one of my sweet spots but with this particual case they decided to add the "magical girl" trope on top of it and in this particular case it just doesn't work in my opinion. It's one thing to build it effectively but adding just as a joke to me is annoying.• On top of this there is a yona of the dawn esque feeling to it (this was written before that but you understand my point). But it seemed like the man was just goading the leading lady towards the end which just wasn't as effective to me to continue on.Overall, I am glad I read this to see the mangakas other work but unfortunately I don't think I'll continue the series. Because of these points, I have to give this volume a 3 out of 5 stars.

Great new series by Arina Tanemura!
Sakura Hime: The Legend of Princess Sakura is the latest series by famed Arina Tanemura. Serialized in Ribon magazine, this series is set in ancient Japan but with a few supernatural twists. Before we get into this, I'm going to get this out of the way. Arina Tanemura has been my favorite for the past nine years with no competition, so there'll probably be some personal bias within the review.Sakura Hime has proven to be a strong new shojo series after one volume. The art is nothing short of gorgeous, the characters are loveable, the story is interesting and takes the 'magical girl' genre into a unique direction. At the outset, Sakura is a spoiled princess who is betrothed to a prince. As she had never met the prince, she was of course reluctant to leave her home. Things take a turn however when she looks into the full moon for comfort only to have a huge demon attack her!Arina Tanemura is known for her gorgeous and wildly detailed art, and this series is no exception. Each panel was filled with such love and care that despite being excited to see how the story unfolds, you'll likely read this at a slow pace just to admire the art. The monologues are lyrical as they usually are in her previous works. The characters are loveable; the spoiled reluctant princess, the at-times sleazy prince, Kohaku the ninja, and the list goes on. Already there's a large cast of characters, but they're introduced at a good pace so as not to feel overwhelmed. On a technical aspect, this series is released by Viz. The size and paper quality is the same as the rest of their wide library. Honorifics are dropped, and sound effects are translated into English. Some people will see this as a negative, but I see it as a huge plus. The reading is much smoother and flows far more naturally. The sound effects are so seamlessly translated, it's hard to believe they weren't in English to begin with. There are no blatantly erased lines. Even with the Japanese volume side by side comparison -- as I own both -- I can tell you it's completely flawless. For those of you are turned off by "Americanized" dialogue, you'll find this is not the case here.ScoresArtwork 10/10Characters 8/10Story 9/10Final score for Sakura Hime volume 1: 9/10 (this series is 4.5 stars out of 5, but because I can't do a half, I scored it with a 5)All in all Sakura Hime is a strong new series by Arina Tanemura. For fans of Arina Tanemura, pick this up. For people who want a fresh shojo series with beautiful art, great characters, and doesn't take place in highschool, pick this up.

It all takes time.
I been a fan in all of Arina's story's and i have to say that it might not be as great as full moon or Gentlemen's alliance cross but it is worth something to read. I love the artwork, the characters who are set in like another world like Inuyasha where the main character as to become the next secessor to slay the demonand devoted her life to human kind for they want to kill her for she might brestay them.As usual Arina's always has loveable characters and artwork that i will always admired. I have to say that it might not be what you want this story to be at first but later it get better.

It was ok
I can't say it was terrible. The artwork is beautiful. Absolutely stunning. I love it. I actually used alot of it for drawing reference. The artist is good with hair in particular. The story.. Boring.. Sakura is a Youko but doesn't want to be and her prince loves her but tried to kill her. It's.. well I can't say boring but I dunno.. I just never got sucked into it.I guess the major issue is that you don't know much about any of the characters (even the main one, Sakura) to really care about any of them. All you find out about her is that her parents are dead she's a moon princess and she loves the prince who she just met at age 14 to marry. You don't connect with Sakura at all, like you would with Hideki from Chobits or Sakura from Card Captor Sakura. You're not going on a Journey with the characters. You're just watching them go about their business with a few very short and uninteresting plot twists. The characters are just.. doing stuff.. and it looks really pretty. That's it.

Great Book
I really enjoyed the first volume of Sakura Hime and will be buying the next one. I love how it it's drawn and the plot isn't atrociously complicated like some manga.
