the keg itself is great, but the lid is fantastic !!
I know this is a bit long, so here's the short version - we now own 2.5 gallons worth of TrailKegs - they are great for beer and other carbonated beverages as well as plain cold and hot ones. This "modlid" makes pouring liquids so easy and avoids spillage. The kegs keep beverages hot or cold for a long time. TrailKegs are great products and we love ours ! btw, if you want to use it as a beer growler, make sure you get the tap lid kit. We love them ! and you'll understand why we love them !!!Here is more detail: When the first TrailKegs came out, we got a half gallon and then a gallon to use as beer growlers, along with the tap lid set up, which work great. We were hosting an event this weekend and needed another gallon size, so I just bought this one. I didn't think too much about the lid when I ordered it, but this one came with a "modlid" which is so much easier than using the ones I have (it just has a handle on top and you unscrew the whole lid to pour out). Also, the smaller opening meant that the coffee stayed hot longer. To get the first cups of coffee out, I could tilt over the keg - it's easy to balance and pour liquid without spilling with one hand and coffee cup in the other. I had it on a table and could then easily pour over the edge by myself. Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but this new lid made it so easy to serve over two gallons of coffee by myself !!!I was worried that the keg and lid would be hard to clean out the coffee smell since we use them for beer, but the gaskets easily come off and back on the lid and have enough elasticity so they won't snap and the opening is big enough for me to get my hand inside and give them a good scrub. I also like that the current ones all have the surgeon general's warning printed on them (required to fill with beer). The keg itself kept all of our coffee hot for the morning and even by the next day, it was warmer than room temperature, which is how I like coffee anyways.I've been a fan of TrailKeg since the beginning, but this latest addition with the modlid worked great; I'll probably be using it more often for other stuff since really, do we need to have 2.5 gallons of beer on tap at all times ? 😎 Maybe cold water for backyard parties instead of bottled water or in pitchers. btw, the tap lid kit also works great and we've modified the lid so we can use the TrailKeg (with the CO2) in our kegerator so we can have better beer all the time ! Keeps cold beverages cold and doesn't do too bad with hot ones.
We have a collection of growlers, mostly glass from the various breweries/brew pubs we've visited. We also have a couple plain glass ones for take out beer (we don't want to mess up our collection LOL). We have a competitor's pressurized growler which is very good for beer and long term storage. I'd heard about TrailKeg and have been on their mailing list for quite some time. Since I am doing more craft shows/flea markets this fall, I thought I'd grab one for hot beverages during my stints. Now you'd think a half gallon of hot coffee would be a bit much. My travel mug is 30oz, only about half the size. At a long day at work, I can go through at least two of them. Our coffee pot is a little less than 64oz (it didn't fill my TrailKeg) but that didn't prevent it from keeping the coffee hot. After about 12 hours, when I finally got around to emptying it, I checked the temperature of what was left and it was over 130F. Sure that's not the "piping hot" in the description, but I don't know if that takes into account opening it, pouring coffee, and closing it over the course of a day.I wouldn't use any of our glass growlers (or the pressurized growler) to haul hot beverages, so this fits the bill perfectly. As someone else mentioned, the lid is great! You can have a wide mouth opening for filling and then a smaller mouth for dispensing (which helps maintain temperature). I may try it for what it was "intended", but for now it's a great hot beverage container!

Perfect for Weekends!
I needed something that actually worked to keep my homebrew and coldbrew cooooold. I've gone through many insulated bottles trying to find the perfect one and always end up disappointed.Enter this TrailKeg growler: It has exceeded all my expectations, full stop. It's been fantastic for weekend road trips and can keep my liquids cold for what seems like days. Bonus is that it works with the TrailKeg Pressure Top so I can stay pressurized with C02 (or Nitrogen for cold brew). Now I no longer have to interrupt my road trips to find and stop at a coffee shop (only to be super dissatisfied by mediocre coffee).Wide-mouth openings can be great, but sometimes you just need to pour. I love having the option to use the screw lid for that. No spilt coffee in the car for me.Note: The insulation works so well...almost too well. You can't put a sealed growler in the fridge and expect your liquid to get cold right away. I find it best to put it in the fridge empty to *charge* before adding liquid. Or just let it sit in the fridge without a top for a bit. You coooould add ice, but why dilute your delicious drinks? What? You like hot stuff like soup? Me too! Thankfully this growler works amazing for hot stuff too! I just pop some piping hot soup into it and it's just as hot when I take it out at dinner time.

Perfect for long days where you can’t easily access water
I’ve really enjoyed this product! I like that you can take the lid off and the mouth is wide enough to add ice. The other function I really enjoy is being able to keep the smaller lid attached on the back. I have a tendency to miss place items of that size and now I don’t lose it. My job can sometimes prevent me from easily having access to water for extended periods of time. Now I can keep a gallon of ice cold water in my car at all times and I never go thirsty!

Great quality, great customer service!
I love my craft beer and started out with a few glass / screw cap growlers. Trail Keg has revolutionized things with the TrailKeg Half Gallon Water Bottle which allows me to fill it, keep it cold and dispense it with an all-in-one unit. No expense spared on quality and their customer service is second to none. Cheers and bottoms up!

It's ok
Doesn't do that great a job of keeping the beer cold and the metal dents easily. I already have 2 dents and have hardly used it.
