Outstanding Resource from One Who Knows
This is a comprehensive look at a very serious subject. Written by Mark Goulston, MD, a top psychiatrist and life-skills coach, the book delivers invaluable information and advice for those living with PTSD.It's also an excellent primer for anyone interested in the subject. Dr. Goulston writes with a conversational tone that is very comforting. His primary message to his reader is "There is a road out of this terrible place."PTSD victims and their family members have to be reminded of this at every turn, for the depression and isolation that usually comes with PTSD, too often leads to suicide. We are seeing this more and more in combat veterans. While Dr. Goulston notes that PTSD is a major, life-altering disorder, and an "invisible epidemic" affecting at least 13 million Americans of every age, he also asserts the good news today, is that PTSD is highly treatable.PTSD is a complex illness, and there are many manifestations of it. The author explains that there are two primary types of PTSD: Simple and Complex. Simple PTSD usually follows a single event, while Complex PTSD can occur after repeated traumas. Gooulston gives insights into the amazing array of available treatments that now offer relief and healing. He addresses the challenges and stresses facing the loved ones of thosewith PTSD, as well as nearly every facet of this "Anxiety Disorder."He also manages to infuse the book with flashes of humor, a much-needed tool for fighting PTSD.This book will help anyone interested in PTSD, and that should be all of us, as we're all just one traumatic event away from it. As our war veterans return from Iraq and Afghanistan, this vital resource can provide great hope and understanding.Don't be mislead by the "Dummies" label. This book is chock-full of scientific facts, and proven remedies. A very important work on PTSD. Highly, enthusiastically recommended!!

Should be mandatory reading.
This book should be the mandatory reading for anyone with PTSD. It should be the first book read and should certainly be read before doing the PTSD Workbook by Mary Beth Williams. I was thankful for the book because it showed me that the "therapy" I was getting from the VA Hospital was piss poor at best. My major gripe about the book is an insinuation that The Department of Veterans Affairs knows anything about PTSD. I got more help from this book than I did with 3 years of mental health care from the VA. I need to read this book again and slowly so that I absorb all the information and so that I can apply the tips and solutions to my life. I am thankful beyond words for the author and for the information and examples given. I am thankful it was written with examples that were easy to understand. Best Book for Trauma.

Not For The Weak!
This book really does get to the heart of the matter. But it tends to make you repeat yourself and your story several times, which can bring some anxiety to your life. But when all is said and done, it is an important tool in your recovery from PTSD. I do recommend it, although I don't recommend going over your traumas multiple times like they want to. It's kind of a mixed bag of positives and negatives. I did get over largest part of my PTSD, but I didn't come out of it totally unscathed. I feel much better though.

Everything you need to know about PTSD is in this book!!!
I bought this book for a research paper, as well as, for myself. I have PTSD also. The entire book describes PTSD in a very easy to understand way. It's well written, and I would advise anyone who has PTSD, is doing a research paper, or has a family/friend with PTSD to buy this book. You will not be disappointed.

Post Traumatic Stress for Dummies
I have complex PTSD and I am glad this book did not exclude that. It is VERY informative and I can relate to all the symptoms and how I feel at times. With all our soldiers coming home from that sandpit I would recommend anyone who will be taking care of them to get this book. It is the best I have read so far. Our problems you can't see on the outside of us. We look like anyone else. You can's see the broken on the inside. This book gets into that.

Pretty basic, but good for those new to the concepts of PTSD.
Well written, but fairly basic, and talks more about sexual assault, combat, and traffic accident PTSD than other types. But, pretty good introductory for someone just getting an understanding of PTSD.
