Will these lights work with a Dimmable switch?

Can i switch the lights to a rectangular base with a 1/2" threaded cover plate mount? Yours looks like it may have a 1/2" threaded connection.

NO. The connection is a screw, not a threaded tube for a 1/2" plate mount. The included screw is metric though and my existing mount had english threads. Had to also swap out the existing cross-mount plate. Included screw is also short and easy to drop and lose. Plan on trips to nearby Ace hardware.
