Pretty tasty for gumbo from a can
Not as good as my Mama’s but pretty tasty considering it comes from a can. The mixture is very dark and rich with a pronounced gumbo file taste (sorry I don’t know how to put the accent on the e). There are little bits of okra, but nothing overpowering. The mixture relatively thin when you first pour it into the pot but it thickens up as you let it simmer, and like any gumbo the leftovers taste much better the second day. Something about letting the mixture sit in the cold frig overnight really brings out the flavors.I added sausage, shrimp, and crab meat to mine, and like I said it doesn’t taste as good as my Mama’s but she spends 5 hours simmering it over a hot stove and this Blue Runner Gumbo takes 20 minutes tops.FYI: Blue Runner makes two different “Gumbo Base” versions. One for Seafood and one for Chicken & Sausage. The difference is the stock. The Seafood version has fish stock, and the Chicken & Sausage is made with chicken stock. The chicken version also does not have okra. Blue Runner also makes a great canned Red Beans. It is wonderful.

I was born and raised in New Orleans and my father use to eat Blue Runner as well when he was growing up. They started in 1918 and it is the perfect New Orleans favor and has the okra that makes it true NOLA gumbo base. Added shrimp, andouille sausage and it was up outstanding, just as I remembered.

I had it at a friends house and thought it was really good. When I made it
Not impressed. I found it to be bland and lacked substance even with the shrimp and crab meat that I added. I had it at a friends house and thought it was really good. When I made it, it didn't taste the same as hers. When I asked her why hers was so much better than mine she confessed that she added some "secret" ingredients. If I don't have time to make it from scratch, I'll use Zatarans.

Very good base for starting gumbo
Added andouille and chicken - very convenient but buying canned goods on line a bit pricey.

Yummy
Wonderful. It tastes great but I did add onions, celery and peppers. For those folks that have problems with rue, this is the perfect solution
