Great for sensitive skin, but..
I have mixed feelings about this product. First things first - it's been great for my sensitive skin and scalp. For most of my life, I've had red/itchy skin despite trying all sorts of high end, expensive products targeted towards sensitive skin, It was only last year (after 10 years of skin abuse) that I realized the culprit for my blotchy/red skin was the shampoos I was using.I tried a few other shampoos which didn't have any impact on improving my skin, but within 1-2 washes of using this product - I could see the perpetual blotches on my face clearing up because of finally not being irritated by harsh chemicals. This shampoo has been great for my sensitive skin, and does not break me out at all.Now for the "not so great" parts -a) This shampoo does not suds well at all, which makes application difficult. It takes a lot of product for me to ensure I clean all of my scalp, because it's difficult to spread around. I know that generally sulphate-free shampoos don't sud, and given how "clean" this shampoo is with it's ingredient list - I can live with the trade-off - but purchase this product with clear expectations.b) Extremely drying - I absolutely can NOT use this product without a conditioner. It leaves your hair feeling "squeaky clean" which is not necessarily a good thing.IMO, I will continue to use this shampoo for a long time as my go-to and will continue to repurchase, but I will also keep experimenting with other shampoos that are not as drying for my fine, thin hair.

Relief!
Like a lot of other people using this product, I have issues with eczema, skin sensitivity, scalp sores, bumps, itching, dryness, and weird nightmarish rashes that pop up from time to time. Ugh. The scalp problem has driven me nuts until I finally admitted I had a problem and decided to try a hypoallergenic shampoo. This one had good reviews and was safe for my color-treated hair, so I placed an order. After just a few uses, my scalp bumps and sores are FINALLY going away. I'm sold! You will definitely need to use conditioner with this shampoo. It does not produce a lot of lather, but it gets your hair and scalp squeaky clean and is safe on sensitive skin. I think the price for this shampoo is reasonable and the relief it's providing is well worth it. I can live without scented hair.

Good option for people with a sensitivity to strong fragrances.
Works well and doesn't trigger my asthma the way that strongly scented shampoos do. While this shampoo is not scented, that doesn't mean that the ingredients have no smell at all. They do have a smell, but it is mild and not irritating to me.Note that this shampoo does not lather well when first applied to oily hair. If you rinse and repeat with the same amount of shampoo, it lathers generously the second time.

Controls my itchy scalp
Contrary to a couple of reviews, this shampoo had plenty of suds and washed out easily. Also, it did not leave my hair dry. (I bought the conditioner, just in case I notice a problem with dryness...) I have normal hair, it's grey, I'm 72. A couple of years ago, I started reacting to most shampoos - very itchy scalp. Saw this brand after researching on the internet. I have used it for a couple of weeks and my head is not itching as much as with most types of shampoo that I have tried.

Nice, plain chemicals without unnecessary plant extracts
Is it perfect? No. But it works. It cleans without causing or perpetuating reactions. It contains no fragrance or masking fragrance ingredients, nor any plant extracts that are anything but hypoallergenic. It is fairly harsh and stripping. However, it is better than using fragrance free dish liquid to wash your har because that's the only thing you can find. I have fine hair, and if I use actual soap it becomes a giant sticky snarl. Detergent based cleansers work better for me.I'd use the conditioner too, but it makes my scalp itch.

No irritants but a little drying
My dermatologist recommended this shampoo after I developed contact dermatitis of unknown cause. She thought my shampoo (John Paul Mitchell Tea Tree and Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo) might be the culprit. I have been using the Free and Clear Shampoo and Conditioner for a month and my dermatitis has not returned. However my hair is dryer and less manageable than before. It does the job however and I do recommend it if you develop and allergy to your shampoo.

Massive Rash/ Allergic Reaction
If I could give negative stars I would. I have soap, shampoo, and detergent sensitivities. I bought this because it looked promising for someone like me who is in need of relief from the constant irritation I live with from over the counter shampoos.Within 3 days of use I had a massive angry rash all over my scalp, ears, and neck. Thinking that maybe it could have been something else that caused such a severe reaction, I waited a month and last night tried to use it again... the rash is back. This stuff is getting poured down the drain. Clearly it's the shampoo. While over the counter shampoos cause me itching and irritation, they never gave me a massive angry rash!!!There is an ingredient in this shampoo that those with skin allergies or sensitivities should PROCEED WITH CAUTION if they choose to use. I for one, don't recommend it and warn others to think twice before buying and using.

itchy, flaky scalp
I was surprised to find that this shampoo made my scalp very itchy after a couple days the way chemically scented shampoos do. My hair was also getting dandruff, which it never does with other products. I have been using Earth Science shampoo for many years, which I love, but I felt like it was stripping my hair color. I think this shampoo strips the hair color less, but my scalp gets too irritated.

It works!
I have very dry skin which, ironically, leads to oily roots and very dry tips, as most shampoos strip my scalp of the very little hydration already there. I tried a number of shampoos that promise not to strip natural oils, without making you look like a homeless bum, and ... neither worked. Enter Vanicream! It actually works! If you use a little bit it will remove excess oils without drying your hair or scalp, but your hair looks presentable (shiny but not oily). If you use a little more, it works like a clarifying shampoo, in the sense that your hair comes out super clean and fluffy (but if you don't protect your tips with some oil before hand they may dry out a bit). My formula is: wash every other day with a dime size amount applied to roots only, rinse, use mild conditioner on tips; once a week: coat tips with something like Morrocan oil or Castor oil prior to wash, use dime size amount on roots only, rinse, repeat dime size amount all over hair, rinse, use mild conditioner on tips.
