Best paper cutter!
This is the best paper cutter i have owned. Im not one to leave reviews (i should) but i LOVE this thing. I first bought a small one from a different seller where you slide the blade like this one but i would go through new little blades every 2-3 days and would sometimes tear my paper.I use it to cut thicker sublimation paper everyday and that other one did the job but i dreaded every time i had to get blades. I also had a different one where you cut down with the blade and came with a magnet to hold paper down. The magnet used to leave my paper dirty and i had to reprint quite a few designs. This one however has been a lifesaver. It saves me so much time from having to cut each design individually. It’s super precise. Hasn’t gotten my papers dirty since the thing that holds the paper down is plastic, but strong plastic. It is very safe as well. Its cut so much time down and honestly i would say its one of the best purchases i have made on Amazon that have been extremely useful. Will be purchasing new blades soon so i have them when the time comes.Thank you for this great product!

Works well on 10mm laminates
It is easy to use and has worked well so far. Nice clean cuts.On mine I don't think it is perfectly square at the ends but it has plenty of lines to line it up square (just need to have a good pressure to hold the laminate so it doesn't move when the blade first hits it). It is square enough but I'm pretty picky. Most people probably wouldn't even notice it.Good product

Not bad, not bad.
I am a teacher, and I ordered this paper cutter to use at home. I wanted something that would save me time when I was creating materials for my classroom. I am more interested in durability than precision. I just received this product, so I can't comment on durability yet, but here are my first impressions.Operation: To cut, you position the paper and then push down on the blade housing as you slide it. Even on single sheets of paper, you will sometimes have to go down and back, effectively cutting it twice to go all the way through a single sheet. I tried to cut seven sheets of paper (colored printer paper, which is a little bit thicker than standard white copy paper), which resulted in the first four sheets getting sliced cleanly. The second pass cut the remaining sheets. This paper cutter works best with a single sheet; if I were planning on regularly cutting multiple sheets at a time I would not buy this trimmer. One neat feature is that the body of the trimmer is metal, and you can use a magnet (not provided) to secure your paper while cutting. This means you could use the trimmer one-handed, if you were so inclined.Safety: I would have no problem taking this product into my classroom, as the kids would really have to work at it to hurt themselves. The blade is concealed, and the guides are tight enough to keep even little fingers away during normal operation.Precision: If you are looking for a precise paper cutter, this is NOT the product for you. It is unreliable. Sometimes the cuts are straight, and sometimes they are not. The bar that the rotary trimmer is attached to wobbles, sometimes so much so that the blade does not connect with the paper on the first try. If I am cutting along a printed line, it will sometimes stay right on it, sometimes start on the line and end up off of it. This problem is compounded if you are trimming all four sides of a piece of paper. While it is visibly off at times, this paper cutter still suits my purposes. My students aren't going to notice or care if the cards for a game are a fraction off of square.Durability: Just got it, so not much to say. You can already see a groove in the cutting strip underneath the blade, but eh. One nice thing is that there are spaces within the board to store additional blades and cutting mats, and the part numbers for replacements are printed right on the trimmer.

Defective product?
I'd like to love this product, but the first one I received won't cut through one piece of printer paper smoothly. There was also a small nick on the cutting mat and no instructions included in the box, which makes me wonder if the item was a return. Because of the good reviews I'll try again, but the jury is still out.

Carl RT-200N: Cuts clean straight edge. Easy mechanism. Measuring grid on board is off by 1/32 inch!
Review of Carl RT-200NI found the cutting action of this board nice and smooth. In addition, the yellow-green translucent clamping bar made for easy viewing/spotting of the exact cutting path of the blade. The board is nice and compact with a handy carrying handle. As a bonus, I found that when standing the board on the end opposite the carry handle, only the base of the board touched the ground. The base was slightly longer than the clamping bar, so the clamping bar or none of the other parts critical to cutting were touching the ground when stood on end. This is an ideal board for straight cuts. It also seems quite durable. If only it didn't have one major glaring problem.... the grid on the board is off by 1/32 of an inch. If you line up a letter-size sheet of paper -- 8.5 x 11 inches -- to the 5.5-inch mark and cut, you end up with 8.5 x 5.46875 and 8.5 x 5.53125 sheets of paper. It would be easy enough to offset the paper by 1/32 of an inch before cutting, but I shouldn't have to. Despite the grid misalignment, cuts are square to the paper. No skewed cuts!I've owned enough rotary trimmers over the years that I know not to expect 100% precision from any affordable trimmer such as this. If the measurement grid were only 1/64 of an inch off but square, I would have given this trimmer 5 stars and a glowing review. However, I have enough occasions where I need to make repeatable, correct single-sheet cuts than what I get with the Carl RT-200N. Also, having read other reviews, the board offset does seem to be an issue, so I cannot recommend it for cases where cut repeatability is important.Note about rotary trimmer clamping bars: I have NEVER had a rotary trimmer -- from DIY home to high-end professional -- where the clamping bar provides sufficient paper clamping by itself. Always be sure to hold the paper in place as you slide the cutting head!

Non-Standard Disks (beware)
The Carl replacement disks shown as purchased together work, but are the wrong disks. Correct Pro disks have specialty plastic cases and only the cutter and perforator are available. Perforator is micro-perf and works very well. Scoring disks don't work because cutting board is not groved so crease-through is impossible. Have scoring machine so I can see a clear difference, probably why not available on Pro model. Visit Carl site for specifics. Good cutter, just match cutting disks and skip perf disk.Note: I cut a groove on 1 side of cutting mat with Dremel and scoring wheel works well on it. Mats are 4-edges each and replaceable so now unit is complete.
