The Blues Brothers - 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital [4K UHD]

This is for the 4K / Blu-Ray release from Universal. I've known of this film and seen it many times since it came out back in 1980. After watching a short on Belushi, I figured it was time to get one of his best films, The Blue Brothers, and was not disappointed at all.For those who may not know (hopefully there are very few of you), The Blues Brothers started out as a recurring sketch on Saturday Night Live back in the 70's. As Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi worked hard to make this music act memorable and enjoyable, it was eventually decided that they're "story" should be told on the Big Screen, and this movie was born. We start with "Joliet" Jake Blues being released from prison and his brother Elwood is there to pick him up. Fulfilling a promise, they visit the Nun who was head of the orphanage in which Jake & Elwood were raised. The orphanage needs $5000 to pay off their Tax Debt and keep running. After visiting a preacher played by James Brown, Jake "sees the light" and realizes that they need to reunite their old band in order to raise the funds to save the orphanage. What ensues is a very hilarious quest by the Blues Brothers who do what they can to raise the money while making lots of enemies along the way from State Troopers to Rednecks to Illinois Nazis.The movie has an excellent blend of comedy & action not to mention the most excellent music performed by such greats as James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, and those are just the ones that appear on screen. With others adding to the soundtrack like Sam & Dave, this movie becomes a unique and extraordinarily entertaining film.The 4k - Blu-Ray package by Universal Studios is Top Notch. Not only do you get the Theatrical & Extended Cuts, but they're all available on both 4K and Blu-Ray discs in the package. There are also 3 behind-the-scenes documentary clips that are both informative and entertaining. Visually and Auditorily, this film is extremely entertaining. From the music performances by some of the most recognizable faces in the Blues industry, to the fantastic chase sequences throughout, this film cannot disappoint anybody.I do have a small bit of advice that this film is rated "R". Primarily, this is due to Language and that's about it. If you can get past the profanity, the movie is very entertaining. Also, you get a choice between Theatrical and Extended Cuts, so you have some good choices ahead of you. Whatever is decided, you can't go wrong,In the end, Highly Recommended for those who remember the original Saturday Night Live cast, fans of great Blues Music, and fans of Chicago in general.

Great movie but you want this one for the soundtrack.

The best movie period!

(NOTE: This review is for the unrated, extended version) SNL movies have a really spotty track record, and often feel like sketches dragged out to feature length. I haven't seen any of the SNL sketches for the Blues Brothers, but this film adaptation hardly feels like the other SNL movies I've seen. There is a decent amount of plot (really, too much) and it is consistently funny throughout. Not only that, but it has one of the best soundtracks ever. The gist of the story is that after Jake Blues is let out of prison on parole, he teams up with his brother Elwood and sets out on a mission to get the band back together in order to raise money to save the orphanage they were raised in. Meanwhile, a diverse assortment of people are all on their trail. What really worked for me was the chemistry between Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi (may he rest in peace), because without that central relationship the movie would just fall flat. And, in contrast to many other SNL movies, THE BLUES BROTHERS felt really cinematic in terms of scale and spectacle. It was excessive at times, but never less than entertaining and always funny. The film also has a ton of cameos from famous artists and other comedians. Some of them felt a little superfluous (Carrie Fisher, I'm looking at you), but again, there was always something to laugh about or sing along with. One scene that I liked in particular was the Brothers' first gig in a Country/Western bar (and the aftermath when the real band shows up). It showed some on-the-spot thinking on the band's part, as well as musical diversity. Outside of that scene, my favorite musical number is probably Cab Calloway performing his signature song, "Minnie the Moocher." Even at his advanced age, he still had the voice and moves. However, the film isn't perfect. Keeping in mind that I watched the extended version, which is about 15 minutes longer, there definitely was a surplus of material, and not all of it was necessary. I didn't really notice too much where footage was added (having not seen the theatrical cut), but there was one short scene where Elwood quits his day job that shouldn't have been added back in. First, in the previous scene he already mentioned he was going to do that. Second, he wasn't wearing his trademark shades. I also feel like Carrie Fisher's role in the film, while funny, didn't have the best resolution, at least compared to the other running gags. Also, at nearly 2 1/2 hours, there are parts that drag. Ultimately, though, THE BLUES BROTHERS is a highly entertaining, funny film that has plenty of action (and comically absurd amounts of property damage), great music and solid performances from everyone involved. If you haven't seen it yet (what few of you there might be), consider watching THE BLUES BROTHERS your own personal "mission from God."

An old time master piece classic of all time's.. now it's even better with this flagship upgrade 4k UHD I'm not sure if there's a better mix but for now I ofto say yeah this a great mix for the fans that know of this movie... I got it an I love it.. video is vivid and sound stage is great.. love it back then love even more with remastered upgrades..

this is snl + millions of dollars in cocaine, and its very noticeable. the amount of money they spent on over the top scenes really makes it stand out as a prop comedy movie, although the rest of the writing is good.
