Better than most grabbers
I've used other snake grabbers before and they just didn't seem to be sturdy or hold the snake when the grabber is in locked position. This grabber is different. It's much more sturdy and I like how the lock ratchets as you close it.I've been missing eggs for a few weeks. An egg here, an egg there. One day I only got one egg from my small flock. I wasn't sure if the birds were slowing their laying because of the heat and I never could find a snake. This morning I opened the coop and checked the nesting boxes for any early eggs and two of my ceramic eggs were gone. It has to be a snake, not the heat that's causing a decrease in eggs. I looked in the coop and also in the pen (our birds no longer free-range due to an ever-present chicken hawk problem). I couldn't find it. A little later I searched the coop again. Couldn't find it. Then I went back and looked in two nesting boxes the hens no longer use. There it was.I got my new snake grabber, snatched the reptile, locked the lever, hauled it outside the pen, and dispatched it with snake shot. Note: Please don't write comments with outrage I should have let the poor thing go.There are thousands of acres in which they can feed. The only off limit area is the chicken pen and coop. I don't even care of they're in the barn catching field mice. Stay out of the chicken area. That goes for rats and mice also. This snake grabber is much easier to use than the ones I purchased a few years ago. It seems more balanced and I really like how the grabber ratchets. I'll order more of these.8/6/18 ETA: I liked these snake grabbers so much I bought two more of them. One of the new grabbers needed the little acorn nuts tightened - these are the ones used on the little bar that locks the mechanism. If you find the grabber is not locking, check to see if the nuts are loose. I just hand-tightened them and they stayed in place. It's nice repair parts are included with each grabber, although I hope I never need them.

Easy to use and makes grabbing snakes much easier and safer.
I love in Idaho where snakes are a way of life. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, I have been nominated by my family to be the official relocation specialist when it comes to unwanted snakes in our yard (that's what you get for being a tomboy and not squeamish!). For too many years this meant pinning the bastards with a stick (the snakes, not my family) and then grabbing them with my bare hands and popping them into buckets for safe travel to new homes (again, the snakes, not my family.) Last year was a snake heavy year with a total of 4 successful relocations, all by hand. While it's not an impossible task, it's not a job I really enjoy...which is why I bought this snake stick. Today was the first day I got to try it and I have to say it's a much better option than my usual bare handed, heart pounding previous interactions! Today's relocation candidate was a 3.5 foot long gopher snake. A quick little snap of the stick and Mr. Snake was easily caught and popped into our travel bucket. 10 minutes later he was hissing his way to a new home and my snake stick was back in the shed for the next unwanted reptilian interloper. This stick is absolutely perfect. Added bonus: works wonderfully during cold months to grab out of reach items off top shelves in the pantry!

Affordable, good enough for the job, not perfect.
For the price these snake tongs are a good purchase. They arrived very quickly which was convenient but not necessary. They appear to be made well enough to definitely serve their purpose but they could definitely be made better but you get what you pay for and I'm sure there is higher quality snake tongs out there but these will serve their purpose for me. I wouldn't trust the lock on them, it works most of the time but not always plus the bolt and nuts that are the locking mechanism aren't a secured in any fashion and can get loose so I would recommend throwing a little Teflon tape or something on there to keep those tight. I think I am going to wrap the parts that grip in cloth and tape to protect any snakes. Make sure you don't put a death grip on the handle otherwise you could definitely injure snakes with this type of equipment, I personally really only plan on using them for venomous species in the field. I did try them out on a personal snake just to get the feel for them and they will definitely work but take some getting used to if you don't want to risk injury to the snake by using too much force.

This works for me!
I'm no snake wrangler, so I don't expect to be picking up any snakes with this.I do however plan to use these for picking up trash and these look like they will be plenty strong enough.Nice and sturdy with a good grip. No more weak clamping with plastic jaws. I recommend you try them out.
