It's a mag bar fire starter
Nothing special but worth the price. Works well and you can get a fire started. Buy two. Practice with one. Use it up. Learn all there is to know about its use. Used according to instructions, they work well. Not used properly.....oh well

My favorite two handed fire starter is a magnesium rod with ...
My favorite two handed fire starter is a magnesium rod with a large ferro rod inserted at the top all topped off with wooden handle. This one is what I grew up with in Boy Scouts and it is a tried a true style that saw wide use in the vietnam war. I use the 90 degree spine on my knife or my carbide sharpener to get the largest globs of sparks and larger shavings on the somewhat hard magnesium. But this worked great in my backyard after a heavy storm and lit right up after a few tries on the ferro rod. Small enough for the pocket so that's what I keep in my business slacks.

I did a very quick test and it works fine and throws a good spark
The Product I received was actually all black in color. It does protect both the Magnesium and Flint Striker. I did a very quick test and it works fine and throws a good spark. You have to get the black protection off of both to get a good spark and I view it as a good think to have the protective coating on it.I would recommend this as a good all around Fire Starter. Fast shipping as well.

Quality, Value.
Yep, this is the one. This is the flint and magnesium I remembered using on a survival wilderness expedition when I was younger. The real deal and does exactly what it is supposed to do. I bought more after receiving the first one.

Essential Backpacking Tool.
These things are great and simple. The striker tool that came with it isn't too helpful, as it doesn't strike well. Just use a sharp knife, but keep the tool attached in case of an emergency where you might misplace a knife.

Perfect tool to start a fire under any conditions
Does what it is supposed to do quickly and easily. Easy enough way to get a fire going almost anyone can be taught to utilize it efficiently. Perfect item for every day carry (while continually preparing for the worst and keeping spares in you and your families "get home bags" and/or "bug out bags") or to keep with you while camping and/or hiking should you need a quick and efficient way of starting a fire (even if you are forced by circumstance to use wet tinder)
