Does anyone use a protective case for the tablet part, if so which one?

For a Carry case that fits the switch with hori grips attached I use the ButterFox Grip Carrying case.. as for an actual clip on case for the console I've never really looked into these ... With the hori pads fitted // there is a large offset between the edge of the pads and the console ... so the console never touches the surface if you set it down.

I have thumb pain from regular joycon buttons. Are the buttons softer on this? Thanks!

I wouldn't say softer just more comfortable. With the Joycons i find my hands cramping when using the buttons as they're close together, The split pad is more like and Xbox controller in shape which I find a lot more natural to hold with better spacing.

Are the buttons more quiet than the standard Joy cons? The clicking that they make is a problem.

I found that the A B X Y buttons can be heard when you're pressing them but the other buttons are fairly quiet, from my use of the pads anyway.

Has anybody used the standard joycons and these on Skyrim. If so would you say these are easier to play it with?

not necessarily easier ... but they are way more comfortable ...buttons / triggers feel better... the grips are larger ... I'd also say the sticks feel better with more travel
