Nostalgic little read!
I absolutely loved this book as a child. One day it popped into my memory so I set out to try to find it for my little boy. None of the online bookstores had it (B&N, BAM), but Amazon did! I was only able to get it in paperback, but I am still on the hunt for it in hardback. It is a story about a boy named Danny who goes to the museum. He sees the dinosaurs and wishes they were alive to play with. And one is! They spend the day together doing many different things, and then the dinosaur goes back home to the museum that night. It is a simple story with very simple illustrations, but still fun. So glad I found this again!

My childhood facvorite
While there may not be much to be said about this children's book. 45 years ago, my uncle bought me this book and I used to have him read it over and over again. When I first learned to read, the tables turned and to help me with reading, I got to read it to him. This copy I purchased for the 4-year-old little girl that I babysit and she loves the book also.

Blast from the Past
I do computer/network work at a couple of grade schools. Last week I was walking out of a classroom when, out of the corner of my eye, I briefly glanced at this book. I wasn't even really looking at the books, I wasn't thinking about them, didn't actually really pay attention to them. But something caught my eye and it stopped me right there. I wasn't even sure what I saw but I knew this memory deep inside my head had been recalled. It was a very weird feeling. I took a step back and looked at the book and there it was, Danny and the Dinosaur. I haven't thought about this book in YEARS! I'm talking like over 25 years ago. Somehow this was stuck in my head and just that passing glance was all I needed to remember it fondly. I went home and ordered for my five-year old son. He thinks the book's funny. And so do I.

If You Play Hide and Seek With a Dinosaur, Just Pretend You Can't See Him
We're big fans of the "I Can Read!" paperbacks, and started to run out of new "My First" level books. I looked at the Level 1, Beginning Reading, books and happened upon these two oldie but goodie books from Syd Hoff."Danny and the Dinosaur" first came out in 1958, and was followed a year later by "Sammy the Seal". I was delighted to see them reissued as "I Can Read!" books. They are a particularly good deal because they are twice as long as the usual "I Can Read!" books, but are still available at the regular paperback price. In "Danny and the Dinosaur" a kid meets a live dinosaur at the museum and heads out into the City with him for a day of wild/mild adventure. In "Sammy the Seal" a friendly seal who's curious about life is allowed a day out of the zoo so he can wander around and explore. Both books feature kind and friendly kids, helpful adults, cheerful adventures and no drama. Is this a 50's sort of thing? Well, yes, the books do have a bit of a nostalgic rose-colored-glasses feel to them, but they aren't glaringly old-fashioned and they've actually aged awfully well. So, these are two books that you might recognize from your own childhood library, they aren't franchise or movie tie-ins, they are readable at the recommended new reader level, they are mellow and colorful, and they're upbeat and cheerful. That's not bad at all.

Wonderful Classic for Learning to Read.
This is the same book I first learned to read by myself. I can recall my older brother helping me sound out the word "dinosaur" when it suddenly clicked and I got it. It was a magical moment in my childhood so I was thrilled to purchase this book for my own daughter to learn to read with. I love this story and the illustrations are darling. It is simple and fun. The look and style of these I Can Read books have vintage appeal but still work with kids today. My daughter loves when I read this to her at night.
