Great well-designed flashlight
---INITIAL IMPRESSIONS---So far I'm very impressed with this flashlight. It feels very solid (all metal construction). Having the ability to recharge this flashlight through the built-in micro-USB port is really nice. There is no worrying about burning through batteries. The included cigarette lighter USB adapter is a nice bonus as well.---USB Charging---The USB charging port is exposed by sliding down the part of the flashlight below the lens (but above the belt clip). When the USB port is covered back up, this sliding piece slides over a gasket to keep water out. When it's closed it feels very solid and secure. Inside the 74175 rechargeable battery appears to be replaceable with an 18650 battery - so it should work fine if you had to use it with CR123A batteries (though I haven't tried this). There is an indicator light that's red while it's charging and turns green when it's charged. Mine came with the battery completely dead - it took several hours of charging before I could use it. For some reason when I was trying to first charge it the red light didn't want to come on and the flashlight wouldn't turn on even after being plugged in for several minutes (I thought it was broken) - after being plugged in for about 15 minutes however the red light turned on and it continued to charge. Maybe the battery was just really dead. Also I've noticed that when the battery gets too low the flashlight seems to just shut off rather than getting dimmer over time.---OPERATION---I also like how the flashlight operates. Unlike other tactical flashlights I've had that cycle through the modes with each press of the button, this flashlight always cycles between on (full power) and off with each full button press. To activate the strobe feature, you quickly half press the button before fully clicking it. To activate the low power mode, half press the button twice before fully clicking it. While this procedure took a little bit of time to get the hang of, it becomes second nature pretty quickly. I rarely find myself accidently turning it on to the wrong mode. The operation I described above is the flashlight's default programming - but apparently the flashlight can be set so that one press is low power mode, half a press then a full press is medium power, and two half-presses then a full press is full power mode. Also the flashlight can be programmed so that only full power mode can be activated to avoid accidently activating other modes I assume.---PERFORMANCE---The high lumen output is the main reason why I wanted this flashlight. At first when I turned it on indoors it was bright, but it wasn't until I used it outdoors that this flashlight was really impressive. It's really great for lighting up large areas outside. I was impressed at how well it lit up everything while shining it across a parking lot. Though it isn't adjustable, I liked the focus of the beam. It wasn't too spread out and diffused but it wasn't too narrow either. I'd say the light itself is more yellow (warmer) than other flashlights I've used - but not as warm in color as an older style of flashlight with a filament bulb. The low-power mode is pretty dim and not something I will likely use much, but it's nice to have the option to conserve power just in case. I haven't really used the flashlight in medium power mode. Finally the strobe feature works very well. Comparing it to other strobe LED flashlights, this flashlight's strobe seems to be faster and more disorienting.

Compact and Bright
Good quality product. Compact but very bright for its size.

Great flashlight, durable, tough, and bright!
I'm a bit of a flashlight freak, I probably have $2000 in flashlights of various types, but most of them are higher-end tactical type flashlights.People certainly use flashlights differently, they are not a one size fits all product, but with a couple of dozen mid to high-grade flashlights of various types and brands I have to say that for my daily work this flashlight has been my go-to over all of the rest, none of the others have the USB rechargeable feature with the lighting program I prefer.I use my flashlights primarily for inspection work that I do and this flashlight has a program where it cycles from low power to high power with each momentary tail click and it returns to low power after turning the light off. I really like this program, I don't get blinded in really dark situations and I'm always just a click away from a little bit more power...all via the operation of the tail switch. My ProTac has been dropped, tossed, kicked, flipped...you name it, it looks terrible, but still works. The only problem I've had is that occasionally the light doesn't start on the first click, it just flashes once, then I have to re-click the switch. It's pretty random when this happens, I keep it charged, so I don't think that it is the battery, but either the tail switch is getting worn or the bulb is. This particularly purchased was for a backup, I bought my first one in July of 2015, I've used it almost every day, and it is still in use currentlyI was a Maglite guy for a long time, but I've found myself favoring my Streamlight flashlights since I've invested in a few. I've purchased some tactical Fenix lights recently, but still grab my ProTac. I own some older model Pelicans, I'll probably try a couple of the new rechargeable models of those next, but Streamlight has set the bar pretty high.

Protac HL
No issues with mine. 10 tap programming works like it should and the light is plenty bright. I really don’t desire any more brightness and do enjoy that this light also has a medium output setting as well adjust high and low. Max brightness is more comparable to what surefire advertises as 500 lumen. Little bit larger than I was expecting as I’m used to carrying a surefire g2x which is also an 18650 or (2)cr123 size light. It’s still small enough to daily carry if you’re a frequent flashlight user but it is a bit on the heavy side and you won’t forget you’re carrying it.Updated pic with almost 2yrs daily use. Starting to show some wear but functions perfectly. Still using my original battery with excellent battery life. I charge weekly at most. I did manage to break the glass lense but quickly replaced it with some polycarbonate welding lenses I had available. Light is a bit more diffused now due to that but not an issue with it being as bright as it is.Overall still love this light and it’s worth the money. Is still a bit large for pocket carry but doable if you must have a great flashlight on you at all times.
